Tokyo (White Lies Song)
"Tokyo" is the fourth single off of White Lies' fifth studio album, '' Five''. The single was released three weeks prior to ''Five''s release, on 10 January 2019, and was released with a corresponding music video. Style and composition In an interview with Mark Millar of ''XS Noize'', the band said of "Tokyo" that when they were writing it "we had been listening to some cheesy 80s ballads and based the foundation of that song on that." Music video On 10 January 2019, along with the single, the music video was released. The music video was filmed during July 2018 in Tijuana, Mexico. The music video was directed by David Pablos, who also directed the music video for the band's previous single, " Time to Give". In an interview with ''Dork'', Harry McVeigh described the band as "lucky" to work with Pablos and felt the music video was their best since their music video, " Death", which was on their debut album, '' To Lose My Life...'' back in 2009. White Lies are an English post-punk revival band from Ealing, London. Formerly known as Fear of Flying, the core band members are Harry McVeigh (lead vocals, guitar), Charles Cave (bass guitar and backing vocals), and Jack Lawrence-Brown (drums). The band performs live as a five-piece, when they are joined by Tommy Bowen and Rob Lee. White Lies formed in October 2007, after writing songs that they felt didn't suit their original band. After delaying their first performance for five months to build up media hype, they earned a recording contract with Fiction Records days after their debut. The release of singles " Unfinished Business" and "Death" led to tours and festival appearances in the United Kingdom and North America, including a headline performance at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend and a place on the 2009 ''NME'' Awards Tour. At the beginning of 2009, White Lies featured in multiple "ones to watch" polls for the coming year, including the BBC's ''Sound of 2009'' poll and th ... Popjustice
Popjustice is a music website founded in 2000 by UK freelance music journalist Peter Robinson, who has worked for ''NME'', ''The Guardian'', ''Attitude'' and many others. It is composed of the work of editor Robinson, features editor Michael Cragg, and a host of contributors. The website seeks to celebrate commercial popular music and does this using humour, user interaction, and contacts within the music industry. Its writing style has been compared favourably by a number of critics to that of the now defunct ''Smash Hits'' magazine, in that it mixes a passion for pop music with a surreal and biting wit. The website was relaunched in January 2006 with more features, music downloads and online shop. In November 2006 Popjustice won a Record of the Day PR & Music Journalism Award in the Best Online Music Publication category, with another individual award going to Peter Robinson in the Breaking Music: Writer Of The Year category.
