Tokari Geet
Tokari geet is a type of Assamese folk song sung playing a '' Tokari''. Earlier it was called ''Tokari naam''. It is so called because a ''tokari'' is played while singing it. A tokari is a single stringed musical instrument played with the fingers; a kind of guitar. These are usually philosophical songs based on human life, stories from Ramayana, Mahabharata, gods and goddesses. Besides, stories of Sankardev and Madhavdeva is also sung here. A tokari can be played with '' dihanaam'', but it cannot be called a ''tokari geet''. The Assamese people are a socio- ethnic linguistic identity that has been described at various times as nationalistic or micro-nationalistic. Ramayana

Mahabharata

Srimanta Sankardeva
Srimanta Sankardev( শ্ৰীমন্ত শংকৰদেৱ )(; ; 1449–1568) was a 15th–16th century Assamese polymath; a saint-scholar, poet, playwright, dancer, actor, musician, artist social-religious reformer and a figure of importance in the cultural and religious history of Assam, India. Madhavdeva
Madhavdev (1489–1596) (Pron: ˈʃrɪ ˈʃrɪ ˈmɑ:dəbˌdeɪv) is an important preceptor of the Ekasarana Dharma known for his loyalty to his guru, Srimanta Sankardev as well as his artistic brilliance. Initially a sakta worshipper, he was converted to Ekasarana Dharma by Sankardev and became his most prominent disciple. He became the religious as well as artistic successor of Sankardeva after the latter's death in 1568. He is known particularly for his book of hymns, the Naam Ghosa, as well as a large selection of songs called ''Borgeets''. Dihanaam
Dihanaam is a type of congregational prayer sung by women in Assam in praise of the Assamese saint Sankardev. Instruments like the '' Negera'', '' taal'', ''khol The khol is a terracotta two-sided drum used in northern and eastern India for accompaniment with devotional music (''bhakti''). The music of Assam consists various genres of folk and modern music, drawing its artistic basis from the history of Assam, from Assamese culture and its ancient traditions. In recent times, starting from the late eighties, popular artistes have modernized the music catering to local popular demand.
