Todo Un Hombre (1943 Film)
''Todo un hombre'' (''What a Man'') is a 1943 Argentine romantic drama film directed by Pierre Chenal on his Latin film debut, and starring Francisco Petrone and Amelia Bence. Critically acclaimed, the film was compared by critics in Argentina to Jean Vigo's ''L'Atalante''. At the 1944 Argentine Film Critics Association Awards, Petrone won the Silver Condor Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film. Plot Francisco Petrone is a tough, hard-working independent river man, who finds it difficult to communicate and express his true feeling to his young wife (Amelia Bence). The two travel up a winding river, and tension between the two escalates. Pierre Chenal
Pierre Chenal (; 5 December 1904 – 23 December 1990) was a French director and screenwriter who flourished in the 1930s. He was married to Czech-born French film actress Florence Marly from 1937 to 1955. Work Chenal was best known for film noir thrillers such as the 1937 film '' L'Alibi'', where he worked with Erich von Stroheim and Louis Jouvet. In 1939 he made ''Le Dernier Tournant'', the first of many film treatments of James M. Cain's celebrated novel, '' The Postman Always Rings Twice''. Chenal was Jewish and was forced in 1942 to flee occupied France with his wife, Czech actress Florence Marly, for South America. Tilda Thamar (born Matilde Sofía Margarita Abrecht; 7 December 1921 – 12 April 1989) was an Argentine actor. She was born in Entre Rios Province, Argentina, in 1921. She was married to Spanish portrait painter Alejo Vidal-Quadras and divorced in 1971. Thamar and Vidal-Quadras lived in Paris, France. Guillermo Battaglia (December 7, 1899September 26, 1988) was a prolific Argentine film actor of the classic era of Argentine cinema. Born in Buenos Aires, he began his film career in 1937 in ''Melodías porteñas''. Battaglia starred in over 100 films between then and 1987.
