''Today'' is a 2014 Iranian drama film directed by Reza Mirkarimi. It was screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. It was selected as the Iranian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards, but was not nominated. Reza Mirkarimi
Reza Mirkarimi ( fa, رضا میرکریمی; born 27 January 1967) is an Iranian screenwriter and film director. He was also Secretary of the International Film Festival of the Fajr Film Festival. Career He graduated from Fine Arts University in graphic arts in Tehran. His cinema activities started from 1987 with a short film named ''For Him'' (16mm camera) and with a series of shorts followed by two TV series aimed at young people. His 1999 first feature, ''The Child and The Soldier'', has won several national and international awards, including the ”Golden Butterfly” at the 1999 Isfahan International Children and Youth Film Festival, Iran and the "Montgolfiere d'Argent” at the Festival of 3 Continents, Nantes, France, in 2000, as well as the "Golden Shoe" at the "Children and Teenagers Film Festival" in Zelin, Croatia, in 2001. List Of Iranian Submissions For The Academy Award For Best Foreign Language Film
Iran has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film regularly since 1994. Prior to the Islamic Revolution of 1979, Imperial Iran sent a single film in 1977. Iran has submitted a total of twenty-six films for Oscar consideration and three films, Majid Majidi's ''Children of Heaven'' and Asghar Farhadi's ''A Separation'' and '' The Salesman'', have received an Oscar nomination. Of the three films, ''A Separation'' and ''The Salesman'' won the award. Six of the submitted films were directed by Majidi and five of them were directed by Farhadi. Bahman Ghobadi and Reza Mirkarimi were each chosen to represent Iran at the Oscars on two occasions. This is a list of submissions to the 87th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of a number of countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. It is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length film produced outside the United States with primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process, reviewing all films submitted. For the 87th Academy Awards, held on 22 February 2015, a submitted motion picture must be released theatrically in its respective country between 1 October 2013 and 30 September 2014. Submission of a film does not automatically qualify it for the competition; AMPAS has the final word on eligibility, and has disqualified submissions in the past.
