Toby Tortoise Returns
''Toby Tortoise Returns'' is a 1936 animated Technicolor cartoon in Walt Disney's ''Silly Symphonies'' series. It was directed by Wilfred Jackson. It is a sequel to the 1935 short ''The Tortoise and the Hare'', and premiered on August 22, 1936. This time the plot revolves around a boxing match. The short features characters from other ''Silly Symphonies'', including Elmer Elephant and Tillie Tiger from '' Elmer Elephant'', Fifer Pig, Fiddler Pig, Practical Pig and the Big Bad Wolf from ''Three Little Pigs'', and Jenny Wren and the cuckoo from '' Who Killed Cock Robin?''. Wilfred Jackson
Wilfred Jackson (January 24, 1906 – August 7, 1988) was an American animator, arranger, composer and director best known for his work on the ''Mickey Mouse'' and ''Silly Symphonies'' series of cartoons and the ''Night on Bald Mountain''/''Ave Maria'' segment of ''Fantasia'' from Walt Disney Productions. He was also instrumental in developing the system with which Disney added music and sound to ''Steamboat Willie'', the first ''Mickey Mouse'' cartoon. Several of the ''Silly Symphony'' shorts he directed, including ''The Old Mill'' (1937), won Academy Awards during the 1930s. Starting with ''Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'' in 1937, he directed sequences in many of the major Disney animated features up to ''Lady and the Tramp'' in 1955, including all of the animated sequences in ''Song of the South'' (1946). Edna Marcellite Garner ( ; July 3, 1910 – July 26, 1993) was an American artist and voice actress. She is most remembered as the first regular voice of Minnie Mouse during her time working at Walt Disney Productions and has been partially credited with defining Minnie's personality. Early life Garner was born in Redlands, California in 1910. She attended night classes at John H. Francis Polytechnic High School in Los Angeles where she studied art. Work at Disney Garner started working at Walt Disney Productions on February 17, 1930, after interviewing the previous year. She worked in the ink and paint department, first working as a cel painter and later as an inker. The studio at the time was a small organization of about 35 employees.
