To Light A Candle (film)
''To Light a Candle'' is a documentary by journalist Maziar Bahari, author of the memoir ''Then They Came for Me''. The film highlights the persecution of Baháʼís in Iran, and focuses on the stories of those individuals associated with the shutdown of Baháʼí Institute for Higher Education. The film had its World Premiere at Stanford University in May 2014. The film was narrated by actor and activist Nazanin Boniadi. Maziar Bahari
Maziar Bahari ( fa, مازیار بهاری; born May 25, 1967) is an Iranian-Canadian journalist, filmmaker and human rights activist. He was a reporter for ''Newsweek'' from 1998 to 2011. Bahari was incarcerated by the Iranian government from June 21, 2009 to October 17, 2009, and has written a family memoir, '' Then They Came for Me'', a ''New York Times'' best seller. His memoir is the basis for Jon Stewart's 2014 film '' Rosewater''. Mohsen Makhmalbaf ( fa, محسن مخملباف, ''Mohsen Makhmalbaaf''; born May 29, 1957) is an Iranian film director, writer, film editor, and producer. He has made more than 20 feature films, won some 50 awards and been a juror in more than 15 major film festivals. His award-winning films include ''Kandahar''; his latest documentary is '' The Gardener'' and latest feature '' The President''. Makhmalbaf's films have been widely presented at international film festivals in the past ten years. The director belongs to the new wave movement of Iranian cinema. ''The Gardener'' ( fa, باغبان, ''Bāghbān'') is a documentary film by Mohsen Makhmalbaf. It had its Asian premiere at Busan International Film Festival, its European premiere at Rotterdam International Film Festival, and North American premiere at the Vancouver International Film Festival. It is the first film in decades to be made by an Iranian filmmaker in Israel. Reza Allamehzadeh
Reza Allamehzadeh ( fa, رضا علامهزاده) is an Iranian-born Dutch filmmaker, film critic and writer who lives in the Netherlands. He is primarily known for his films about refugees, such as ''The Guests of Hotel Astoria'' (1988), and the documentary ''Holy Crime'' (1994), about the murder of opposition figures in Europe by the Islamic regime in Iran. Allamehzadeh was born in 1943 in Sari, Mazandaran province, Iran. He studied film directing at “Tehran Academy of Film and Television” in 1966–1969. Along with filmmaking, he writes and publishes children's books, novels and short stories.
