Al Tinney
Allen Tinney (May 28, 1921 – December 11, 2002) was an American jazz pianist. Early life Born in Ansonia, Connecticut, Tinney was a child actor and was a cast member in the original production of George Gershwin's ''Porgy and Bess'' in 1935. As a child, he lived with his family in Greenwich Village and Harlem in New York City. He led the house band at Monroe's from 1939 to 1943, which featured Charlie Parker, Max Roach, Benny Harris, George Treadwell, and Victor Coulsen. He was an influential bebop pianist, whose style can be heard echoed in the playing of Bud Powell, George Wallington, Al Haig, and Duke Jordan. Career From January 1943 to May 1946, Tinney served in the United States Army. After 1946, he began to play increasingly in other styles and outlets. He was a member of the one-hit wonder group The Jive Bombers in 1957. Frank Tinney
Frank Aloysius Robert Tinney (March 29, 1878 – November 28, 1940) was an American blackface comedian and actor. Tinney achieved considerable success in vaudeville and on Broadway in the early 20th century. Comedian Joe Cook considered Tinney "the greatest natural comic ever developed in America." Tinney's career and marriage were ruined after he was accused of beating his mistress, Ziegfeld girl Imogene "Bubbles" Wilson in May 1924. Although he was never formally charged, the ensuing publicity ruined his reputation. Tinney suffered a number of health problems after the scandal and eventually had a nervous breakdown. He never regained his health and died in November 1940. Mary Catherine Tinney
Mary Catherine Tinney (15 February 1924 – 22 November 2006) was the Irish ambassador to Sweden from 1973 to 1978, and was Ireland's first female ambassador. Life and career Early life Tinney's parents were Irish migrants living in Scotland; her father Éamon was a tax official from Donegal and her mother Winifred (née Reid) a teacher from County Londonderry. In 1930, when Tinney was six years old, her family returned from Scotland to Carlingford, County Louth, where her father was killed in an accident, leaving his widow with four young children. The family moved to Dublin, where Tinney's mother taught in a convent school and trained choirs. Tinney attended University College, Dublin, graduating with BA Honours. Stuart Brian Tinney, OAM (born 7 December 1964 in Mundubbera) is an Olympic-level equestrian rider, who competes for Australia. He won a team gold medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics, a team bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and also competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Tinney competed at four World Equestrian Games (in 1998, 2002, 2010 and 2014). He finished 4th in the team eventing competition at the 2002 World Games. His best individual placement is 8th place from 2010. In 2008, Tinney competed in Europe in an attempt to make selection for the Beijing Olympics, but did not make the Australian team. Belcourt Castle
Belcourt is a former summer cottage designed by architect Richard Morris Hunt for Oliver Hazard Perry Belmont and located on Bellevue Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island. Construction was begun in 1891 and completed in 1894, and it was intended to be used for only six to eight weeks of the year. Belcourt was designed in a multitude of European styles and periods; it features a heavy emphasis on French Renaissance and Gothic decor, with further borrowings from German, English, and Italian design. In the Gilded Age, the castle was noted for its extensive stables and carriage areas, which were incorporated into the main structure.
