Timmins is a provincial Electoral district (Canada), electoral district in Ontario, Canada. It elects one member to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. This riding was established from the urban portion of the former riding of Timmins—James Bay (provincial electoral district), Timmins—James Bay on the recommendation of the Far North Electoral Boundaries Commission in 2017. The remainder of Timmins—James Bay became the Mushkegowuk—James Bay riding. The riding mirrors the boundaries of the city of Timmins. George Pirie is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in the 2022 Ontario general election, 2022 provincial election. He represents the riding of Timmins (provincial electoral district), Timmins as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario. He defeated Gilles Bisson who was first elected in 1990 Ontario general election, 1990, taking the seat from the Ontario New Democratic Party for the first time in 32 years. Cochrane District is a district and census division in Northeastern Ontario in the Canadian province of Ontario. It was created in 1921 from parts of Timiskaming and Thunder Bay districts. In 2016, the population was 79,682. The land area of this district is , making it slightly smaller than the US State of Michigan and the second largest district in Ontario after Kenora District. Timmins
Timmins ( ) is a city in northeastern Ontario, Canada, located on the Mattagami River. The city is the fourth-largest city in the Northeastern Ontario region with a population of 41,145 (2021). The city's economy is based on natural resource extraction, and is supported by industries related to lumbering, and to the mining of gold, zinc, copper, nickel and silver. Timmins serves as a regional service and distribution centre. The city has a large Francophone community, with more than 50% bilingual in French and English. History Research performed by archaeologists indicate that human settlement in the area is at least 6,000 years old; it's believed the oldest traces found are from a nomadic people of the Shield Archaic culture. Timmins—James Bay was a provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1999 to 2018. Its population in 2001 was 84,001. The district included the extreme eastern part of the District of Kenora, all of the District of Cochrane except for the central western part, and a small part south of Timmins, and all of the District of Timiskaming except for the extreme southeastern part. Mushkegowuk—James Bay (french: Mushkegowuk—Baie James) is a provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada. It elects one member to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. This riding was created from the northern portion of Timmins—James Bay by the Far North Electoral Boundaries Commission in 2017. The Legislative Assembly of Ontario approved the new riding on October 24, 2017. Unlike most Ontario provincial districts, Mushkegowuk—James Bay does not have the same boundaries as a federal district.
