City Oval
City Oval (formerly Alexandra Park and sometimes called the Pietermaritzburg Oval), is a multi-purpose stadium in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. The 12,000 capacity stadium is currently used predominantly for cricket matches, with the ground being used by KwaZulu-Natal Inland men's and women's teams, KwaZulu-Natal and Dolphins (who also play at Kingsmead, Durban), and hosted two matches during the 2003 Cricket World Cup. Umgeni Steam Railway
The Umgeni Steam Railway is a gauge heritage railway at Inchanga, near Durban. The Durban to Pietermaritzburg line was built in the 1880s; it runs through a long tunnel at Drummond built in 1878, which is probably the oldest tunnel in use today in South Africa In 1982, a small Dubs locomotive was donated by the Illovo Sugar company to local enthusiasts; this was the start of the preservation group. A Class-3BR locomotive is used every month; it was built by North British Locomotive Company in February 1912. The coaches used were built between 1908 and 1953, with most being built in the 1930s. Excursion Trains On the last weekend of every month excursion trains are run from Inchanga to Bothas Hill because of flood damage between Bothas Hill and Kloof. KwaZulu-Natal National Botanical Garden
The KwaZulu-Natal National Botanical Garden is situated along Mayor's Walk, in the western suburbs of Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. The identification code of the ''KwaZulu-Natal National Botanical Garden'' as a member of the Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI), as well as the initials of its herbarium is NBGN . History It was established in 1874. Plants from eastern South Africa and from the Northern Hemisphere are cultivated here. The garden is open every day of the year, from 8am to 6pm in summer, and from 8am to 5.30pm in winter. It features a century-old lane of plane trees, leading northwards from the entrance, and a forested hillside with a number of footpaths. The Dorpspruit, a tributary of the Msunduze River, flows at the base of the hillside. The garden is one of the oldest in the world, and in 2015, it was announced that it would be given an upgrade and a new lease on life.
