Lleida
Lleida (, ; Spanish: Lérida ) is a city in the west of Catalonia, Spain. It is the capital city of the province of Lleida. Geographically, it is located in the Catalan Central Depression. It is also the capital city of the Segrià comarca, as well as the largest city in the province. It had 137,387 inhabitants , including the contiguous towns of Raimat and Sucs. Lleida is one of the oldest towns in Catalonia, with recorded settlements dating back to the Bronze Age period. Until the Roman conquest of the Iberian Peninsula, the area served as a settlement for an Iberian people, the Ilergetes. The town became a municipality, named Ilerda, under the reign of Augustus. It was ruled by the Moors from the 8th century, and reconquered in 1149. In 1297, the University of Lleida was founded, becoming the third oldest in the whole of Spain. Lleida–La Pobla Line
The Lleida–La Pobla Line ( ca, Línia Lleida-La Pobla) is a railway line linking Lleida and La Pobla de Segur, in Catalonia, Spain. Most of its users concentrate between Lleida and Balaguer, where a frequent service is offered, with few trains continuing to La Pobla de Segur. Since 2009, a heritage railway service branded ''Tren dels Llacs'' (English: "''Lakes Train''"), in reference to the number of reservoirs skirted by the line north of Balaguer, has been running on the railway. CaixaForum is a cultural centre managed by Fundación “La Caixa” located in 3 Avinguda de Blondel, in the city of Lleida, cornering Avinguda de Madrid, in the building popularly known as ''Montepío'' after the former name of a bank located in this building. The building which was the site of Cine Viñes became the cultural centre of Fundación “La Caixa” in 1989, so we can say that this building has always been related to cultural activities. It was later renamed in 2008 to keep the same naming convention of other centres from La Caixa. New Cathedral Of Lleida
The New Cathedral of Lleida (Catalan ''Catedral Nova de Lleida'') or Seu Nova is the seat of the Bishop of Lleida, located in Lleida, Catalonia. History The current cathedral replaced the earlier cathedral, La Seu Vella, Lleida located in the highest point in town, and for a time used as a garrison. The church was constructed in an early Neoclassical-style in using designs by Pedro Martín Cermeño and construction directed by Francisco Sabatini. The austere building was built with local gray stone, but with a coat of arms of the ruling House of Bourbon.
