William Timothy O'Brien (born October 1, 1946) is an American novelist. He is best known for his book ''The Things They Carried'' (1990), a collection of linked semi-autobiographical stories inspired by O'Brien's experiences in the Vietnam War. In 2010, ''The New York Times'' described O'Brien's book as a Vietnam classic. In addition, he is known for his war novel, ''Going After Cacciato'' (1978), also about wartime Vietnam, and later novels about postwar lives of veterans. O'Brien held the endowed chair at the MFA program of Texas State University–San Marcos every other academic year from 2003–2004 to 2011-2012 (2003–2004, 2005–2006, 2007–2008, 2009–2010, and 2011–2012). Tim O'Brien (born November 16, 1964) is an American artist who works in a realistic style. His illustrations have appeared on the covers and interior pages of magazines such as ''Time'', ''Rolling Stone'', '' GQ'', '' Esquire'', '' National Geographic'', '' Der Spiegel'', and others. His illustrations are also used by the US Postal Service for postage stamps. Early life and education O'Brien's paternal grandparents came from Ireland, and his maternal grandparents from Norwich, Connecticut, arriving in the United States from Quebec. Tim O'Brien (born March 16, 1954) is an American country and bluegrass musician. In addition to singing, he plays guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, bouzouki and mandocello. He has released more than ten studio albums, in addition to charting a duet with Kathy Mattea entitled "The Battle Hymn of Love", a No. 9 hit on the '' Billboard'' Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) charts in 1990. In November 2013 he was inducted into the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame. Timothy Brian O'Brien, RDI (8 March 1929 – 14 October 2022) was a British theatre designer. O'Brien was born in Shillong in British India. He was educated at Cambridge University from 1949 to 1952, and as a Henry Fellow and Fulbright Scholar at the Yale School of Drama from 1952 to 1953. His career began in television at the BBC in 1954. Sir Timothy Carew O'Brien, 3rd Baronet (5 November 1861 – 9 December 1948) was an Irish baronet who played cricket for England in five Test matches. Life and career Tim O'Brien was born in Dublin and educated at the Catholic school Downside in Somerset.''Wisden'' 1949, pp. 867–68. He went to New Inn Hall, Oxford, principally in order to further his cricket career. A forceful right-handed batsman, O'Brien won a Blue in 1884 and 1885. He went on to play 266 first-class cricket matches as an amateur for Oxford University and in fairly regular appearances for Middlesex through to 1898. Sir Timothy O'Brien, 1st Baronet (1787 – 3 December 1862) was an Irish Whig, Independent Irish Party and Repeal Association politician, and merchant. He was the son of Timothy O'Brien and his wife (née Madden). In 1821, he married Catherine Murphy, daughter of Edward Murphy, and they had at least five children: Timothy (died 1869); John (died 1869); Kate (died 1894); Ellen (died 1899); and Patrick (1823–1895). In 1844, O'Brien was made Lord Mayor of Dublin, a position he again held in 1849. Simultaneously, he was a Member of Parliament (MP), first elected as a Repeal Association member for Cashel at a by-election in 1846—caused by the resignation of Joseph Stock.
