"Till I Can't Take It Anymore" is a song written by Clyde Otis and Ulysses Burton. It was first recorded by Ben E King in 1968. The song was featured in The Soul Clan's self-titled album ''The Soul Clan''. Dottie West and Don Gibson's version charted at 46 on the Hot Country Songs in 1970. Since then, it has also charted as a single by Andra Willis, whose version went to number 85 on the same chart in 1973. Pal Rakes's version went to number 31 in 1977. The highest-charting rendition of the song was by Billy Joe Royal, released in September 1989 from the album '' Tell It Like It Is''. His version of the song peaked at number two on the country charts in early 1990, making for his second single to reach that position. In 1969 Rocky Roberts realized a cover in Italian titled "Ma non ti lascio" in his album ''This is Rocky Roberts''. Billy Joe Royal
Billy Joe Royal (April 3, 1942 – October 6, 2015) was an American country soul singer. His most successful record was " Down in the Boondocks" in 1965. Life and career Born in Valdosta, Georgia, to Clarence and Mary Sue Smith Royal, and raised in Marietta, Georgia, Royal performed at the Georgia Jubilee in Atlanta during his teens. He formed his own rock and roll band, and became a local star at the Bamboo Ranch in Savannah in the late 1950s and early 1960s, where his singing style was influenced by African-American performers, including Sam Cooke. Royal was a friend of performer and songwriter Joe South, and recorded what was intended as a demo of South's song " Down in the Boondocks". The recording was heard at Columbia Records, who offered Royal a singing contract in 1965 and released his version of the song, produced by South. ''Golddiggas, Headnodders and Pholk Songs'' is the ninth and penultimate album by The Beautiful South, released in 2004. It is almost entirely a covers album, with one notable exception. The track "This Old Skin" was originally claimed to have been written by Bobby Christiansand/Barry Klein, and to have been originally performed by an obscure band called "The Heppelbaums" in the 1970s, but it was later revealed to have been an original composition by the usual Beautiful South writing team, Paul Heaton and Dave Rotheray. This was confirmed in 2006 by frontman Paul Heaton during a Question and Answer session entitled "Ask the Band". Prior to that, a website for The Heppelbaums had been created, in which many more clues to the real identity of the band were revealed. The domain was created on 5 August 2004 and registered to Sony, the band's record label.
