''Tigridia matudae'' is a rare plant species known from only two locations in Mexico, in a small region along the boundary between the State of Mexico and Morelos Morelos (), officially the Free and Sovereign State of Morelos ( es, Estado Libre y Soberano de Morelos), is one of the 32 states which comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico. It is divided into 36 municipalities and its capital city is Cuer .... Both sites are at high elevations in the mountains, at altitudes of 2900–3000 m, in forests of ''Pinus'' and ''Abies''. One is within Zempoala Lakes National Park. The species is a bulb-forming perennial up to 90 cm tall. Leaves are narrow and tapering. Lagunas de Zempoala National Park is a natural protected area which consists of a group of seven lagoons. In the Nahuatl language, "Zempoala" means "place of many waters." The park is located between the states of Morelos and State of Mexico, Mexico. Geography The lagoons of Zempoala are located in a biological corridor named Chichinautzin, between the municipalities of Ocuilan de Arteaga, at the southwestern section of State of Mexico and Huitzilac, northwestern section of the state of Morelos, 50 km away from Mexico City. Iridaceae
Iridaceae is a family of plants in order Asparagales, taking its name from the irises, meaning rainbow, referring to its many colours. There are 66 accepted genera with a total of c. 2244 species worldwide (Christenhusz & Byng 2016). It includes a number of other well known cultivated plants, such as freesias, gladioli and crocuses. Members of this family are perennial plants, with a bulb, corm or rhizome. The plants grow erect, and have leaves that are generally grass-like, with a sharp central fold.
