Tierra Del Pan
Tierra del Pan (Land of Bread) is a '' comarca'' located in the center of the province of Zamora, western Spain. It belongs to the Autonomous Community of Castile and León. The city of Zamora, capital of the province, is included in this comarca. Despite the strong identity of its inhabitants, this historical region has not been able to achieve the necessary legal recognition for its administrative development. Therefore its municipalities have resorted to organizing themselves in mancomunidad, the only legal formula that has allowed the region to manage its public municipal resources meaningfully. The comarca has a total of about 76,000 inhabitants. The Tierra del Pan comarca has a surface of 849.59 km². Its geography is typical of the Meseta Central. Comarca De La Tierra Del Pan (Zamora, España)
A ''comarca'' (, or , or ) is a traditional region or local administrative division found in Portugal, Spain and some of their former colonies, like Brazil, Nicaragua, and Panama. The term is derived from the term ''marca'', meaning a "march, mark", plus the prefix ''co''-, meaning "together, jointly". The ''comarca'' is known in Aragonese as ''redolada'' () and in Basque as ''eskualde'' (). In addition, in Galician, ''comarcas'' are also called ''bisbarras'' (). Although the English word "county" and its near synonym "shire" have similar meanings, they are usually translated into Spanish and Portuguese as ''condado'', a term which in the Iberian peninsula only refers to regions historically ruled by a ''conde'' (count or earl). Ricobayo
Ricobayo is a locality in the province of Zamora, Spain. Formerly a municipality in its own right, it is part of Muelas del Pan. Bridge Long important as a crossing-point on the River Esla, Ricobayo's original bridge is now under water, having been drowned by the construction of the Ricobayo reservoir. Since the 1990s the main bridge has been the Ricobayo Arch Bridge. Dam and reservoir In the 1920s it was agreed to build a gravity dam on the River Esla at Ricobayo. It impounds the Ricobayo Reservoir. The dam is part of a hydroelectric scheme known as Saltos del Duero. This scheme involves other dams in the catchment area of the Duero such as the Almendra Dam. As well as electricity generation, Ricobayo Reservoir is used for recreation.
