Tiago Moreira De Sá
Tiago da Mota Veiga Moreira de Sá (born 12 January 1971) is a Portuguese politician, from the Chega party. He is a professor at Universidade Nova de Lisboa and researcher at the Portuguese Institute of International Relations. Moreira de Sá was also a member of the Assembly of the Republic during the 15th legislature (2022–2024), elected for the Social Democratic Party. Academic career He graduated in Communication Sciences – journalism variant – in 1995 and received a PhD in History of International Relations at ISCTE in 2008, with the thesis entitled “The United States of America and Portuguese Democracy”. Chega (political Party)
Chega (; officially stylised as CHEGA!; ) is a national conservative, right-wing populist political party in Portugal formed in 2019 by André Ventura. It is characterized as being between the right-wing and far-right of the political spectrum. Its inclusion in the register of Portuguese political parties was accepted by the Constitutional Court on 9 April 2019. On the 12th of April 2019, it announced that the head of its list to the European Parliament is Ventura. Chega was part of the Basta! coalition for the 2019 European Parliament election in Portugal. In the 2019 Portuguese legislative election it won one seat in the Portuguese Parliament. In the 2022 general election, it increased its seat count to 12 with a 7.18% swing in its favour. 2024 European Parliament Election In Portugal
An election was held in Portugal on Sunday, 9 June 2024, to elect the Portuguese delegation to the European Parliament from 2024 to 2029. It took place as part of the wider 2024 European Parliament election. This was the ninth European Parliament election held in Portugal. This election took place just three months after the 10 March 2024 legislative election, which resulted in a very narrow win for the Democratic Alliance, thus was seen as a "second round" of the March elections. The Socialist Party (PS) narrowly polled ahead of the Democratic Alliance (AD), 32 percent versus 31 percent, although the result nearly mirrored the also very narrow result of the March 2024 legislative election. In terms of seats, the Socialists had a net loss of one, winning 8, while the AD held their 7 seats won in 2019. 2018 Portuguese Social Democratic Party Leadership Election
The 2018 Portuguese Social Democratic Party leadership election was held on 13 January 2018. The leadership election was held after then PSD leader Pedro Passos Coelho confirmed he would not run for another term in the aftermath of the poor results of the PSD in the 2017 local elections. Only two candidates came forward: Rui Rio, former mayor of Porto, and Pedro Santana Lopes, former PSD leader, Prime Minister of Portugal, Prime Minister and mayor of Lisbon. This was Santana Lopes 5th leadership campaign, as he also ran in 1995, 1996, 2000, and 2008. As only two candidates were on the ballot, a second round wasn't necessary. Rui Fernando da Silva Rio (born 6 August 1957) is a Portuguese economist and politician of the Social Democratic Party (PSD). He was the Mayor of Porto from 2002 to 2013. Between 2018 and 2022, he was President of the PSD and Leader of the Opposition.
