Three In One (film)
''Three in One'' is a 1957 Australian anthology film directed by Cecil Holmes and starring Reg Lye. It consists of three separate stories, "A Load of Wood", "The City", and "Joe Wilson's Mates". Plot In ''Joe Wilson's Mates'', Joe Wilson dies alone in a small town during the 1890s without friend or family. But because he carries a union card the local union member give him a decent burial. ''The Load of Wood'' is set during the 1930s. Two men are doing relief work but can not afford to buy enough fuel to keep their families warm. They steal a truck of wood from a rich man's estate and distribute it around to need families. In ''The City'' a young factory worker and ship assistant plan to marry but cannot afford it. Cecil Holmes (director)
Cecil William Holmes (23 June 1921 – 24 August 1994) was a New Zealand-born film director and writer. Biography Holmes was born in Waipukurau, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. He served in the Royal New Zealand Air Force and British Royal Navy during World War II before turning to filmmaking. He made a number of documentaries for the New Zealand National Film Unit then moved to Australia, where he directed several feature films and a number of documentaries for the Commonwealth Film Unit. The Cecil Holmes Award given by the Australian Directors Guild is named after him. The Award was instigated in 1995, and is presented by the ADG board from time to time to honour recipients who have advocated for the role of the director. His second wife was author and Indigenous advocate Sandra Le Brun Holmes who contributed an account of the experience of their making ''I, the Aboriginal'' to ''Walkabout'', a magazine for which Holmes himself also wrote. Betty Helen Lucas (31 May 1924 – 7 April 2015), also known as Betty Lucas Peterson, was an Australian character actress and theatre director, known for her numerous roles on stage and television, starting from the post-WWII years in 1945. Pagewood Studios was a film studio in Sydney, Australia, that was used to make Australian, British and Hollywood films for twenty years. Bodgie
Bodgies and widgies refer to a youth subculture that existed in Australia and New Zealand in the 1950s, similar to the rocker culture in the UK or Greaser culture in the United States. Most bodgies rode motorbikes but some had cars, many of which were hotted-up e.g. mag wheels, hot dog muffler, etc. The males were called bodgies and the females were called widgies. Bodgies were often depicted in Australian media and folk-lore as louts. On 1 February 1951 the '' Sydney Morning Herald'' wrote on its front page: "What with "bodgies" growing their hair long and getting around in satin shirts, and "wedgies" cutting their hair short and wearing jeans, confusion seems to be arising about the sex of some Australian adolescents." Ken Wayne (1925–1993) was an Australian actor of radio, theatre, film and television. He made his film debut in '' Sons of Matthew'' (1949) and appeared in a number of movies including ''Dust in the Sun'' (1958). Rex Rienits (17 April 1909 – 1971) was an Australian writer of radio, films, plays and TV. He was a journalist before becoming one of the leading radio writers in Australia.
