Thorne South Railway Station
Thorne South railway station is one of two stations serving the town of Thorne in South Yorkshire, England. The station is north of Doncaster on the South Humberside Main Line. It is unstaffed, and the only passenger facilities are standard shelters on each platform. The station was more substantial until the mid-1970s, with the westbound platform being an island, a subway linking the platforms and wooden buildings and canopies on each side (the platforms were also located slightly further east than now). There was also a signal box - this was abolished when the line was resignalled in the early 1980s. The other station in the town is Thorne North, which is served by trains towards Hull. Thorne is a market town and civil parish in the City of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England. It was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. It has a population of 16,592, increasing to 17,295 at the 2011 Census. History The land which is now Thorne was once inhabited by Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age people. Hatfield Colliery Landslip
Hatfield Colliery, also known as Hatfield Main Colliery, was a colliery in the South Yorkshire Coalfield, mining the High Hazel coal seam. The colliery was around northwest of Hatfield, South Yorkshire, adjacent north of the railway line from Doncaster to Scunthorpe (former South Yorkshire Railway, or ''Barnsley to Barnetby Line'') northeast of Hatfield and Stainforth railway station. The colliery opened in 1916. Hatfield and Stainforth railway station serves the towns of Hatfield and Stainforth in South Yorkshire, England. It is located north east of the main station. The original station, known until the 1990s as "Stainforth and Hatfield" and was built in 1866 as a replacement for the South Yorkshire Railway's Stainforth when their line was brought to its present alignment. The station was renamed Hatfield and Stainforth in the 1990s when it was considered that Hatfield was the larger of the two and had the larger population.
