Thomas mac Edmond Albanach de Búrca, 2nd Mac William Íochtar (Lower Mac William or Mac William Bourke) (died 1402) was an Irish chieftain and noble who was lord of Lower (North) Connacht, Ireland. Family background A son of Sir Edmond Albanach de Burgh, 1st Mac William Íochtar (d.1375) and Sadhbh Ni Maillie (daughter of Diarmuid mac Owen Ó Máille), de Búrca succeeded his father as chieftain in 1375. Thomas died in 1402, and was succeeded by his son Walter mac Thomas de Búrca, 3rd Mac William Íochtar (d.1440). In total, Thomas had the following issue: * 1 - Meyler, died 1384. * 2 - David, died 1384. * 3 - John, died 1384. * 4 - Walter, died 1440. * 5 - Edmond, died 1458. * 6 - Thomas, died 1460. * 7 - Richard, died 1473 * 8 - Meyler, died 1462. Tibbot MacWalter (Theobald Fitzwalter) Kittagh Bourke, 21st Mac William Íochtar (Irish: ''Tiobóid mac Walter Ciotach Búrca'') (; ; c.1570 – in or after 1602) was the first and last person to hold that title following its restoration. He was inaugurated at Kilmaine by Hugh Roe O'Donnell in December 1595 to secure Mayo for the rebel Irish Alliance during the Nine Years' War. His rule was opposed by many Bourke nobles, most notably by his arch-rival, the loyalist chief Tibbot na Long Bourke. The two men fought for supremacy over the MacWilliam Lordship (modern-day County Mayo) throughout the war and control of the area changed hands on numerous occasions. Following Kittagh's flight to Spain (and creation as "Marquess of Mayo") in 1602, the MacWilliam chieftainship was abolished yet again, and Tibbot na Long would thereafter be made Viscount Mayo. General Sir Richard Bourke, KCB (4 May 1777 – 12 August 1855), was an Irish soldier, who served in the British Army and was Governor of New South Wales from 1831 to 1837. As a lifelong Whig (Liberal), he encouraged the emancipation of convicts and helped bring forward the ending of penal transportation to Australia. In this, he faced strong opposition from the landlord establishment and its press. He approved a new settlement on the Yarra River, and named it Melbourne, in honour of the incumbent British prime minister, Lord Melbourne. Early life Bourke was born on 4 May 1777 in Dublin, Ireland, the son of Anne () and John Bourke. His mother was from County Tipperary and his father from Dromsally in County Limerick. Seaán mac Oliver (John) Bourke, 17th Mac William Íochtar (Lower Mac William or Mac William Oughter) ( ; died 1580) was an Irish noble who was created Baron Ardenerie (1580). Career Bourke was the son of Oliver Bourke of Tirawley, grandson of Seaán Bourke, and a great-grandson of Ricard Ó Cuairsge Bourke, 7th Mac William Íochtar (d.1479). He developed his power base using gallowglass mercenaries, and by 1570 was regarded as the next Mac William Íochtar (Lower Mac Williams). He was created Baron Ardenerie in May 1580. Despite the contemporaneous culture of those of his class, he had little love for war and seemed concerned for the well-being of his people. Ricard Ó Cuairsge Bourke, 7th Mac William Íochtar (; ; died 1479) was an Irish chieftain and noble. A son of Edmund na Féasóige de Búrca, 4th Mac William Íochtar (d.1458), Ricard was tánaiste for his uncle, Risdeárd de Búrca, 6th Mac William Íochtar (d.1473), who had succeeded his brother Tomás Óg de Búrca, 5th Mac William Íochtar in 1460. The elder Risdeárd was by then over sixty years old, which meant that Ricard O'Cuairsge was the real power in the lordship. Ricard O'Cuairsge succeeded his uncle in 1469 as chieftain, and much of his reign was spent curbing the ambitions of the O'Donnells who were expanding into north Connacht via Sligo, in which aim he was successful.
