Thomas Alexander Mitchell
Thomas Alexander Mitchell (1812 – 16 March 1875) was an English Liberal politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1841 to 1875. Mitchell was a merchant in the City of London. He was a partner in the firm of Mitchell, Yeames and Co, a member of the committee of management of Lloyds Shipping Register and chairman of the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China. At the 1841 general election, Mitchell was elected as one of the two Members of Parliament (MPs) for Bridport. He held the seat until his death 1875, aged 63. Tommy Mitchell
Thomas Bignall Mitchell (4 September 1902 – 27 January 1996) was an English first-class cricketer who played for Derbyshire between 1928 and 1939. A leg spin bowler, he was the most successful slow bowler in the history of a county better known for its pace bowling strength. His bowling was an important factor in Derbyshire's most successful period in the County Championship during the 1930s. Along with Bill Copson, Leslie Townsend and the brothers Pope, he formed an attack sufficiently strong during the dreadful summer of 1936 to, aided by some quirks in the weather, displace Yorkshire from their perennial position atop the Championship table. Mitchell was born at Creswell, Bolsover, Derbyshire and was a faceworker in the coal mines. Thomas Noel Mitchell is an Irish academic and university administrator who served as 42nd provost (president) of Trinity College Dublin from 1991 to 2001. Biography Mitchell, a native of Mayo, Ireland, was born in Castlebar on 7 December 1939 to Patrick Mitchell and Margaret Mitchell. He graduated with first class honours with a B.A. and M.A. in Latin and Greek from University College Galway. He earned a doctorate from Cornell University and a Litt.D. from Trinity College Dublin. He started his academic career as instructor at Cornell University from 1965 to 1966. Thomas Mitchell (painter)
Thomas Mitchell (; died 1790) was an English marine painter, who exhibited at the Free Society of Artists in 1763 and 1768 and at the Royal Academy from 1774 to 1789. He was also a naval official, and became eventually assistant-surveyor of the navy. Life Thomas Mitchell was a shipwright by profession who also practised with some success as a painter of marine subjects. He first exhibited at the Free Society of Artists in 1763, when he was residing on Tower Hill. He exhibited there again in 1768 and the following years, when he was employed as assistant shipbuilder at Chatham dockyard. In 1774 he appears as builder's assistant at Deptford dockyard, and was afterwards employed in the navy office, becoming eventually assistant surveyor of the navy. Thomas Mitchell (1857 – July 18, 1942) was a United States Navy sailor and a recipient of the United States military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor. Born in 1857 in New York, New York, Mitchell joined the Navy from that state. By November 17, 1879, he was serving as a landsman on the at Shanghai, China. On that day, he rescued a shipmate, First Class Boy M. F. Caulan, from drowning. For this action, he was awarded the Medal of Honor five years later, on October 18, 1884. Mitchell's official Medal of Honor citation reads: Serving on board the U.S.S. ''Richmond'', Mitchell rescued from drowning, M. F. Sir Thomas Livingstone Mitchell (15 June 1792 – 5 October 1855), surveyor and explorer of Southeastern Australia, was born at Grangemouth in Stirlingshire, Scotland. In 1827 he took up an appointment as Assistant Surveyor General of New South Wales. The following year he became Surveyor General and remained in this position until his death. Mitchell was knighted in 1839 for his contribution to the surveying of Australia. Biography Mitchell attended leading Worth School in West Sussex and represents England in rugby sevens and won a silver medal representing Great Britain in the 2016 Summer Olympics; he is also the captain for both teams.
