Thomas King (Canadian Politician)
Thomas King (September 5, 1879 – December 18, 1972) was a merchant, farmer and political figure in British Columbia. He represented Columbia (electoral district), Columbia in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1931 to 1933 and from 1934 to 1952 as a British Columbia Liberal Party, Liberal. He was born in Angus, Ontario in 1879, the son of John Leary and Mary Scott, and was educated in Cookstown, Ontario, Cookstown. In 1901, Leary married a Miss Woodley. He lived in Golden, British Columbia, Golden. He was first elected to the assembly in a 1931 by-election held following the death of John Andrew Buckham. From 1941 to 1952, King was part of a Liberal-Conservative coalition government. King died in Golden in 1972, aged 93. Columbia (electoral District)
Columbia was a provincial electoral district in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It made its first appearance on the hustings in the election of 1903. It lasted until the 1928 election, when it was merged into Columbia-Revelstoke for the 1933 election. Following the election the new Pattullo government moved to reestablish Columbia as a separate riding, and former MLA Thomas King was elected by acclamation in a 1934 by election. In 1966 the riding was renamed Columbia River. This riding was later merged with the Revelstoke riding to become Columbia River-Revelstoke, the current riding for the western part of the area. The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia is the deliberative assembly of the Parliament of British Columbia, in the province of British Columbia, Canada. The British Columbia Liberal Party, often shortened to the BC Liberals, is a Centre-right politics, centre-right provincial political party in British Columbia, Canada. The party currently forms the Official Opposition. Innisfil is a town in Ontario, Canada, located on the western shore of Lake Simcoe in Simcoe County, immediately south of Barrie and north of Toronto. It has historically been a rural area, but due to being geographically sandwiched in between the high-growth areas of Barrie area and York Region has meant greater residential development in Innisfil. Etymology The name ''Innisfil'' comes from the Irish ''Inis Fáil'', an ancient mythological name for Ireland. History The history of Innisfil spans a period in excess of 170 years. The Town was hewn from almost unbroken virgin forests which had been home to the Huron Indians, and was first surveyed in 1820. Golden, British Columbia
Golden is a town in southeastern British Columbia, Canada, west of Calgary, Alberta, and east of Vancouver. History In 1807, David Thompsonrenowned fur trader, surveyor, and map-makerwas tasked by the North West Company to open a trading route to the lucrative trading territories of the Pacific Northwest. He first crossed over the Rocky Mountains and travelled along the Blaeberry River to the future site of Golden. In 1881 the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) hired surveyor A. B. Rogers to find a rail route through the Selkirk and Rocky Mountains, and in 1882 he found the pass now named for him. Rogers established a base camp for his survey crew led by a man named McMillan. Initially known as McMillan's Camp, the settlement was the beginning of the town of Golden. John Andrew Buckham
John Andrew Buckham (April 1, 1873 – October 12, 1931) was a pharmacist and politician in British Columbia, Canada. He represented the riding of Columbia in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia as a Liberal from 1916 until his death in 1931. Buckham was born in Kilmaurs, Ontario, the son of George Buckham and Jean C. Young, and was educated in Ottawa and Toronto. In 1900, he married Laura Teresa Kelly. He ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the British Columbia legislature in 1909. He was Speaker of the House from 1924 to 1928.
