Thomas Geierspichler
Thomas Geierspichler (born April 14, 1976) is a Paralympian, Paralympic wheelchair racing, wheelchair racer from Austria. He competes in the T52 (classification), T52 classification. Career He competed in the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney, Australia. There he won a bronze medal in the men's Marathon - T52 event, went out in the first round of the men's 800 metres - T52 event, finished sixth in the men's 1500 metres - T52 event and finished eighth in the men's 5000 metres - T52 event. He also competed at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, Greece. There he won a gold medal in the men's 1500 metres - T52 event, a silver medal in the men's 800 metres - T52 event, a silver medal in the men's 5000 metres - T52 event, a silver medal in the men's Marathon - T52 event and a bronze medal in the men's 400 metres - T52 event. Para-athletics is the sport of athletics practised by people with a disability as a disabled sports, parasport. T52 (classification)
T52 is disability sport classification for disability athletics. People in this class have good shoulder and upper body control, but lack fine motor skills in their arms and hands. They have no to limited trunk and leg function. The class includes people with a number of different types of disabilities including spinal cord injuries. Wheelchair Racing
Wheelchair racing is the racing of wheelchairs in track and road races. Wheelchair racing is open to athletes with any qualifying type of disability, amputees, spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy and partially sighted (when combined with another disability). Athletes are classified in accordance with the nature and severity of their disability or combinations of disabilities. Like running, it can take place on a track or as a road race. The main competitions take place at the Summer Paralympics which wheelchair racing and athletics has been a part of since 1960. 2016 IPC Athletics European Championships
The 2016 IPC Athletics European Championships was a track and field competition for athletes with a disability open to International Paralympic Committee (IPC) affiliated countries within Europe, plus Israel. It was held in Grosseto, Italy and took part between 10 and 16 June. The competition was staged at Stadio Olimpico Carlo Zecchini. Approximately 700 athletes from 35 countries attended the games. This was the last edition of the event held under the IPC Athletics title. Russia topped the medal tables in both gold medals won (51) and total number of medals won (131).
