John Eliot (statesman)
Sir John Eliot (11 April 1592 – 27 November 1632) was an English statesman who was serially imprisoned in the Tower of London, where he eventually died, by King Charles I for advocating the rights and privileges of Parliament. Early life The son of Richard Eliot (1546 – 22 June 1609) and Bridget Carswell (c. 1542 – March 1617), he was born at Cuddenbeak, a farm on his father's Port Eliot estate in St Germans, Cornwall. He was baptised on 20 April at St German's Priory, immediately next to Port Eliot. The Eliot family were an old Devon family that had settled in Cornwall. John Eliot was educated at Blundell's School, Tiverton, and matriculated at Exeter College, Oxford, on 4 December 1607, and, leaving the university after three years, he studied law at one of the Inns of Court. Son Goku was a German rock band who played a mix of hardcore punk, alternative, reggae, and electronic sounds. The band was named after the Son Goku character in the ''Dragon Ball'' series. Son Goku's first and only album, ''Crashkurs'' (Crash course), was released in 2002 and reached a peak position of 15 on the Media Control Charts. The group has since disbanded due to "dissension" amongst the members. History Origins Son Goku was a side project of Thomas D of Die Fantastischen Vier. The band originated from the M.A.R.S. (Moderne Anstalt Rigoroser Spakker, or ''Modern Institute of Adamant Spakkers''), a commune of artists and musicians founded by Thomas D in 1998. Thomas Lamb Eliot ( – ) was an Oregon pioneer, minister of one of the first churches on the west coast of the U.S., president of the Portland Children's Home, president of the Oregon Humane Society, a director of the Art Association, director of the Library Association, and founder of Reed College. Early life and education Thomas Lamb Eliot was born in St. Louis, Missouri, as the first son of Rev. William Greenleaf Eliot, D.D., of the Church of the Messiah in St. Louis. An injury to his eyes interrupted his education at Washington University in St. Louis, which his father helped start and run. Thomas Elliot (c. 1759 – 1832) was one of the main organ builders in England during the early 19th century. History The first records of Thomas Elliot as an organ builder date from 1790 when he was established in Holborn. Later he moved to premises on the Tottenham Court Road. He is thought to have worked for the company founded by John Snetzler. He is thought to have formed a partnership with John Nutt, until Nutt's death in 1804. Alexander Buckingham was foreman to Thomas Elliot for many years until establishing himself as an independent organ builder. William Hill (1789–1870) married Thomas Elliot’s daughter Mary, and then joined the firm, which was renamed Elliot and Hill from 1825 until 1832. The Colonial Land and Emigration Commission (CLEC), also known as the Colonial Land and Emigration Board, was a British government authority under the supervision of the Secretary of State for the Colonies that facilitated emigration within the British Empire. Established by a formal commission from Queen Victoria on 14 January 1840, the commission took over the responsibilities of two existing government offices, the South Australian Colonization Commission, and the Agent-General for Emigration. In 1837 Thomas Frederick Elliot (1808–1880) had been appointed to the latter post, and he became a member of the new body. Tom Elliot (10 April 1880 – 28 November 1948) was a Scotland international rugby union player. Rugby Union career Amateur career Elliot played for Gala, first playing for the club in 1899. The Gala 7s side, including Elliot, got to the Hawick Sevens final of 1904, but Hawick beat them in the final. The ''Hawick News and Border Chronicle'' of 22 April 1904 noting: That Gala were kept mostly on the defensive; and Tom Elliot did not get much chance of a sprint. As runners up, the Gala players were given kit bags. The Gala XV side won the Border League in 1905. Elliot was a mainstay in the Gala side until 1909. Thomas Elliot MBE (6 April 1926 – 3 May 1998) was a Scotland international rugby union player. His regular playing position was Prop. Rugby Union career Amateur career Elliot was born into a farming family in the Scottish Borders. He was educated at St. Mary's School, Melrose and at Loretto School, Musselburgh. After school he joined Gala RFC and played for the 2XV at lock. He soon moved to loose-head prop and over the next fifteen years made the position his own. Hush (Thomas Elliot) is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Created by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee, the character first appeared in '' Batman'' #609 in January 2003 as part of the twelve-issue storyline '' Batman: Hush''.
