Thomas Collins (governor)
Thomas Collins (1732 – March 29, 1789) was an American planter and politician from Smyrna, in Kent County, Delaware. He was an officer of the Delaware militia during the American Revolution, and served in the Delaware General Assembly and as President of Delaware. Early life and family Collins was born in Duck Creek, now Smyrna, Delaware, married Sarah, and had four children, William, Elizabeth, Mary, and Sarah. His sister was the wife of former Governor John Cook. Collins was trained in the law, but never practiced, and must have had considerable wealth available to him as he purchased several large tracts of land in the Duck Creek area early in life. They lived first at ''Gloster'' on the south side of Dawson's Branch and after 1771 at Belmont Hall, now on U.S. Highway 13, south of Smyrna. They were members of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Thomas Hugh Collins (4 March 1895 – 19 May 1964) was an English cricketer. Collins was a left-handed batsman who bowled left-arm slow-medium. Collins made his first-class debut in the 1921 County Championship for Nottinghamshire against Leicestershire. Collins played two first-class matches for Nottinghamshire in 1921, the last of which came against Surrey. Fourteen years later Collins joined Hampshire for the 1935 County Championship where he played two matches against Derbyshire and finally Lancashire. Thomas LeRoy Collins (March 10, 1909 – March 12, 1991) was an American politician who served as the 33rd Governor of Florida. Collins began his governorship after winning a special election in 1954, was elected to a four-year term in 1956, and served from 1955 to 1961. Prior to winning election as governor, Collins served several terms in the Florida House of Representatives and Senate. He was the first governor from the South to promote ending segregation. Counseling "progress under law", he took a moderate course in favor of incremental improvements during the 1950s and 60s and is remembered as a voice in favor of civil rights. Son Goku was a German rock band who played a mix of hardcore punk, alternative, reggae, and electronic sounds. The band was named after the Son Goku character in the ''Dragon Ball'' series. Son Goku's first and only album, ''Crashkurs'' (Crash course), was released in 2002 and reached a peak position of 15 on the Media Control Charts. Thomas Collins (31 January 1841 – 16 March 1934) played first-class cricket for Cambridge University in three matches between 1861 and 1863 and in many other games that have not been designated first-class. He was born in Warwick, Warwickshire and died at Newport, Shropshire aged 93. Collins was educated at King Edward VI School, Bury St Edmunds and at Christ's College, Cambridge University. He graduated as a Bachelor of Arts in 1863, becoming a Master of Arts in 1868. He became a schoolmaster at King Edward VI's School, Birmingham from 1863 to 1870, and was then headmaster of Newport Grammar School in Newport, Shropshire, from 1871 to his retirement in 1903. Collins also studied law, being admitted to the Inner Temple in 1863 and called to the Bar in 1868. Thomas Christopher Collins (born January 16, 1947) is a Canadian cardinal of the Catholic Church. He was the Metropolitan Archbishop of Toronto from 2007 to 2023, the Bishop of Saint Paul in Alberta from 1997 to 1999, and Archbishop of Edmonton from 1999 to 2006. He was elevated to the rank of Cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI on February 18, 2012. Thomas Collins (died 1719) was a pirate active in the Indian Ocean. He is best known for leading a pirate settlement and trading post on Madagascar. History The privateering ship ''Charming Mary'' left New York in 1694, bound for Madagascar under captain Richard Glover. It was captured by pirates under John Ireland and Richard Bobbington and cruised against Moors in the Indian Ocean for several years. Collins had been aboard the ''Charming Mary'', either as one of the original New York crew, or having joined when the ship put into Ile Ste Marie to trade and take on additional crew to continue its piracy. Alternately, Collins may have come to the area with Henry Every before transferring to the ''Charming Mary''. Thomas Patrick Collins, M.M. (January 13, 1915 – December 7, 1973) was an American-born Catholic missionary and bishop. As a member of the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America (Maryknoll) he was assigned to missions in Bolivia. He served as the Vicar Apostolic of the Pando from 1961 to 1968. Early life and education Thomas Collins was born in the San Francisco, California and was one of seven children. He was educated at Sacred Heart School and studied for the priesthood at seminaries in Mountain View, California and Venard before being ordained a priest on June 21, 1942. Priesthood Brown spent his entire career in the Maryknoll Misson in Bolivia. He did pastoral work in a mission station from the Mission Center at Riberalta.
