Thomas Henry Shadwell Clerke
Thomas Henry Shadwell Clerke, KH (1792–1849), was an Irish soldier and military journalist. Clerke was a native of Bandon, Cork. Being intended for the army, a profession also adopted by his brothers, St. John Augustus Clerke, who died a lieutenant-general and colonel 75th Foot, 17 January 1870 and William Clerke, afterwards a major in the 77th Foot, he was sent to the Royal Military College, Great Marlow, where he distinguished himself by his abilities. He was appointed to an ensigncy without purchase in 1808 and as a subaltern in 28th and 5th Foot, he served through the Peninsular campaigns until the loss of his right leg in the combat at Redinha in 1811 incapacitated him for further active service. On the recommendation of Lord Wellington, he was promoted to a company in the 1st Garrison Battalion, with which served until its reduction in 1814. Thomas Clerke (songwriter)
Thomas Clerke was a Sunderland singer/songwriter and poet from the seventeenth and/or eighteenth century. Thomas Clerke was said to be a “Gentleman of powerful convivial talents and the author of several spirited, and Anacreontic¹ songs” many of which are now attributed to others. He was said to be always cheerful and an outgoing member of society. His works were poetical and full of ready wit and sparkling humour. Bishop Of Killala
The Bishop of Killala () is an episcopal title which takes its name after the village of Killala in County Mayo, Ireland. In the Roman Catholic Church it remains a separate title, but in the Church of Ireland it has been united with other bishoprics. History The foundation of the Episcopal see of Killala dates to the time of Saint Patrick who had a church built there (Killala Cathedral), over which he placed one of his disciples, Saint Muredach, as its first bishop. Another of early bishop is believed to have been Saint Cellach of Killala. The see was often called the bishopric of Uí Fiachrach Muaidhe or Tir Amalghaid (Tirawley) in the Irish annals. Although the bishopric was founded in the 5th century, it wasn't until AD 1111 that the Diocese of Killala was established by the Synod of Ráth Breasail. Thomas Clerke (MP)
Thomas Clerke (c. 1485 – 2 March 1555), of Wookey, Somerset, and London, was an English politician. Family Clerke was the second son of Clement Clerke of Great Livermere and Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, and his wife, Alice. Thomas was probably educated at Bury St Edmunds Grammar School and at the University of Cambridge. By 1523, he had married a woman named Antonia, and they had two sons and two daughters. One of their sons, John Clerke, was MP for Bath, Somerset in the same year his father represented Wells.
