	Thomas Clarges Sir Thomas Clarges (c 1618 – 4 October 1695) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1656 and 1695. He played an important part in bringing about the Restoration of the Monarchy in 1660. Origins Clarges was the son of John Clarges and his wife Anne Leaver. 	Sir Thomas Clarges, 2nd Baronet Sir Thomas Clarges, 2nd Baronet (25 July 1688 – 19 February 1759), of Aston, near Stevenage, Hertfordshire, was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1713 to 1715. Clarges was the eldest surviving son of Sir Walter Clarges, 1st Baronet, whom he succeeded circa 31 March 1706 and was educated at St Paul's School. Clarges was a Member of Parliament for Lostwithiel from 1713 to 1715. Clarges was appointed a Gentleman of the privy chamber by 1734 until his death. He married twice; firstly Katherine, the daughter and coheiress of John Berkeley, 4th Viscount Fitzhardinge and secondly Frances, with whom he had a son Thomas, who predeased him. 	Clarges Baronets The Clarges Baronetcy, of St Martin's in the Fields in the County of Middlesex, was a title in the Baronetage of England. It was created on 30 October 1674 for Walter Clarges, subsequently Member of Parliament for Colchester and Westminster. He was the son of Sir Thomas Clarges. Sir Walter was succeeded by his son, Thomas, the second Baronet. He represented Lostwithiel in Parliament. He was succeeded by his grandson, Thomas, the third Baronet, the son of Thomas Clarges. The third Baronet sat as member of parliament for Lincoln. The title became extinct on the death of his son, Thomas, the fourth Baronet, in 1834. Clarges was the son of Thomas Clarges of Aston, Hertfordshire and his wife Anne Shute of John Shute, 1st Viscount Barrington and was born on 4 October 1751. 	Sir Thomas Clarges, 4th Baronet Sir Thomas Clarges (c. 1780-17 February 1834) was the son of Sir Thomas Clarges, 3rd Baronet and Louisa Skrine. He was a pupil at Eton College, matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford in 1799, and graduated from Oxford University in 1802. He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Clarges, of St. Martin's in the Fields in the County of Middlesex, on 23 December 1782. From 1803 until his death, he was Constable of Durham Castle in the County Palatine.
