Thomas Carroll (martial Artist)
Thomas "Lapuppet" Carroll, (7 February 1938 – 20 March 1999) was a pioneer African-American martial artist, and also a member of USA Karate Hall of Fame, and the Black Belt Hall of Fame. of Brooklyn, New York. He was also a member of the US Ju-Jitsu Federation, but focussed on Shotokan karate. Carrol died from cancer in March 1999. Early life Thomas Carroll LaPuppet born in South Carolina in 1938, and died on March 23, 1999. He was raised in Brooklyn graduating from Franklin K. Lane High School. He then went on to attend the State University of New York in Westbury, New York but did not graduate from there due to his belief that "The University of the street" provided a more dynamic education. Gregory Hines
Gregory Oliver Hines (February 14, 1946 – August 9, 2003) was an American dancer, actor, choreographer, and singer. He is one of the most celebrated tap dancers of all time. As an actor, he is best known for '' Wolfen'' (1981), '' The Cotton Club'' (1984), ''White Nights'' (1985), '' Running Scared'' (1986), ''The Gregory Hines Show'' (1997–1998), playing Ben on ''Will & Grace'' (1999–2000), and for voicing Big Bill on the Nick Jr. animated children's television program ''Little Bill'' (1999–2004). Hines starred in more than 40 films and also appeared on Broadway. Steve "Nasty" Anderson 1955-2020 was a well-known retired karate competitor. Anderson appeared on the covers and in articles in many martial arts magazines and won numerous world championships. Various sources list different numbers, but On Point magazine claimed he won 10 world titles. Anderson was a karate kempo stylist and was a Black Belt Magazine 1982 Competitor of the year. ''Black Belt'' is an American magazine covering martial arts and combat sports. The magazine is based in Valencia, California, and is one of the oldest titles dedicated to martial arts in the United States. History and profile The magazine was founded in 1961 by Mitoshi Uyehara. It was published by Uyehara under the company "Black Belt, Inc." based in Los Angeles until 1973. Although the publication went mainstream in 1961, the first magazine was produced and sold for ten cents and was put together on the kitchen floor of Uyehara's home in 1958. By the first year of producing a full publication in 1961, Uyehara was in debt for $30,000. Joseph Henry Lewis (March 7, 1944 – August 31, 2012) was an American karateka, kickboxer, and actor. As a fighter, Lewis gained fame for his matches in the 1960s and 1970s, and was nicknamed "the Muhammad Ali of karate." He has twice been voted the greatest fighter in karate history, having won innumerable karate tournaments, and has attained the titles of "United States Heavyweight Kickboxing Champion," "World Heavyweight Full Contact Karate Champion," and "United States National Black Belt Kata Champion."
