Thomas Harold Broadbent Maufe
Thomas Harold Broadbent Maufe VC (6 May 1898 – 28 March 1942) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He was educated at Uppingham School. VC details He was 19 years old, and a second lieutenant in the 124th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery during the First World War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC. On 4 June 1917 at Feuchy, France, Second Lieutenant Maufe, on his own initiative and under intense artillery fire repaired, unaided, the telephone wire between the forward and rear positions, thereby enabling his battery to open fire on the enemy. He also saved what could have been a disastrous occurrence by extinguishing a fire in an advanced ammunition dump caused by a heavy explosion, regardless of the risk he ran from the effects of gas shells in the dump. Thomas Biggin Broadbent
Thomas Biggin Broadbent (1793–1817), was an English preacher. Life Broadbent was the only child of William Broadbent and was born at Warrington on 17 March 1793. He entered Glasgow College , image = UofG Coat of Arms.png , image_size = 150px , caption = Coat of arms Flag , latin_name = Universitas Glasguensis , motto = la, Via, Veritas, Vita , ... in November 1809. After graduating in April 1813, he became classical tutor in the Unitarian academy at Hackney, an office he filled till 1816, preaching latterly at Prince's Street Chapel, Westminster, during a vacancy. His pulpit powers were remarkable. Resigning his London work, he returned to Warrington to pursue his ministerial training as his father's assistant. He died of apoplexy on 9 November 1817. Thomas Broadbent (born 12 November 1936) is a former Australian rules football Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by k ...er who played with Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Broadbent, a full-forward from Sandgate, had only a brief stint at Fitzroy. He played in Fitzroy's win over Richmond at Brunswick Street Oval in round 15 and didn't feature again. He was a dual winner of the Queensland Australian National Football League leading goal-kicker award, with 72 goals in 1953 and 86 goals in 1960. A member of Sandgate's 1956 premiership side, Broadbent was regularly picked for the Queensland interstate team in the 1950s.
