This is a list of the earliest known English cricketers whose careers began prior to the first matches which are now considered to hold first-class status in 1772. The list is by season, this being the season in which the player's name first appears in sources. Cricket underwent radical changes during the 18th century. Patronage and popular support enabled it to outgrow its roots as a village pastime and develop into a major sport. The '' Laws of Cricket'' were first written in 1744 and revised in 1774, and in the early 1760s pitched delivery bowling was introduced which necessitated the invention of the straight cricket bat: an evolution in bowling and batting techniques that radically changed cricket. Sir Thomas Brandon, of Southwark, Surrey, and of Duddington, Northamptonshire, Order of the Garter, KG (died 27 January 1510) was an English soldier, courtier and diplomat. Life He was from a Lancashire, Lancastrian family, the son of William Brandon (died 1491), William Brandon (died 1491) of Southwark and Elizabeth Wingfield (died 1497), daughter of Robert Wingfield, Sir Robert Wingfield of Letheringham, Suffolk. He was uncle to Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk. His brother, William Brandon (standard-bearer), William, was killed at the battle of Bosworth defending the standard of the future Henry VII. A contemporary manuscript speaks of Sir Thomas as having 'greatly favoured and followed the party of Henry, earl of Richmond.’ He was appointed to the embassy charged with concluding peace with France in 1492, and again in 1500 he formed one of the suites which accompanied Henry VII to Calais to meet the Archduke Philip of Austria. Thomas Terrell Brandon (born May 20, 1970) is an American former professional basketball player. He played for three teams during his 11-year career in the National Basketball Association (NBA). A two-time All-Star, Brandon was a key starter on three NBA franchises before a series of injuries ultimately forced him to play his last game at 31 years old. Early life Brandon was born in Portland, Oregon and attended Grant High School, where he led his team to the 1988 Class AAA Oregon high-school basketball championship, being named Oregon high school player of the year. As a child, he suffered from chronic foot deformation. College career Brandon attended the University of Oregon, leading his team to the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) in 1989–90 as a sophomore. Tom Brandon (footballer, Born 1867)
William Thomas Brandon (3 October 1867 – 24 November 1941) was a Scottish footballer who played in the Football League for Blackburn Rovers (where he won the FA Cup in 1891) and Sheffield Wednesday. He gained one cap for Scotland in 1896, being one of five men who were the first to be selected while playing for an English club, and in the process becoming Blackburn's first international for that nation. He had several relatives who played the game: brothers James and Bob were teammates in his early career at St Mirren (winning a Renfrewshire Cup together in 1888) and cousin Harry was a teammate in his short spell with at Sheffield Wednesday (Harry later too won the FA Cup in 1896).The Origins of Sheffield Wednesday

Thomas J. Brandon (1908–1982) was a founding member of the New York Workers Film and Photo League. He later worked as a film distributor for Garrison Films before founding his own company, Brandon Films in November 1940. During the 1950s, Brandon Films owned the largest collection of 16mm available for general release in the United States.
