Thomas Bennett (Lord Mayor)
Sir Thomas Bennet (1543 - 1627) was an English merchant and Lord Mayor of London in 1603-04. A leading London mercer, on 7 February 1594, Bennet was elected an Alderman of the City of London for Vintry Ward. He was Sheriff of London for 1594-95 and Master of the Mercers' Company in 1595-96. He became Master Mercer again in 1602 and, in 1603, Bennet was elected Lord Mayor of London. Bennet was knighted by King James I on 26 July 1603 and, in 1604, he was elected Alderman of Lime Street Ward, serving until 1612. He was President of the Royal Bethlem and Bridewell Hospitals from 1606 to 1613 and in 1610 became Master Mercer again. In 1612 he transferred as Alderman for Bassishaw Ward which he represented until 1627. He was also President of St Bartholomew's Hospital from 1623 until his death on 20 February 1627. Bennet Baronets
There have been four baronetcies created for persons with the surname Bennet, two in the Baronetage of England and two in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia. All four creations are extinct. The Bennet Baronetcy, of Bechampton in the County of Buckingham, was created in the Baronetage of England on 17 July 1627 for Simon Bennet. The title became extinct on his death in 1631. Sheriffs Of The City Of London
Two sheriffs are elected annually for the City of London by the Liverymen of the City livery companies. Today's sheriffs have only nominal duties, but the historical officeholders had important judicial responsibilities. They have attended the justices at the Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey, since its original role as the court for the City and Middlesex. The sheriffs live in the Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey, during their year of service, so that one of them can always be attendant on the judges. Thomas Lowe (Lord Mayor)
Sir Thomas Lowe (died 11 April 1623) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1606 and 1622. He was an alderman of the City of London and became Lord Mayor of London in 1604. History and career Lowe was the son of Simon Lowe of Bromley Kent and his wife Margaret Lacey, daughter of Christopher Lacey of London. He was a member of the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers. In 1594 he was Master of the Haberdashers Company and became an alderman of Billingsgate in 1594. He was Sheriff of the City of London in 1595. In 1602 he was Master of the Haberdashers again and was knighted at Whitehall on 26 July 1603. He became Lord Mayor of London in 1604. Sir Robert Lee (c. 1550 - 22 December 1606) was an English merchant who was Lord Mayor of London in 1602. Lee was a city of London merchant and a member of the Worshipful Company of Merchant Taylors. On 18 December 1593, he was elected an alderman of the City of London for Dowgate ward. He was Sheriff of London from 1594 to 1595. Sir Heneage Finch (15 December 1580 – 5 December 1631) was an English nobleman, lawyer, Member of Parliament, and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1607 and 1626. He was Speaker of the English House of Commons in 1626. Early life Finch was born on 15 December 1580 at The Moat, his father's house near Canterbury. He was the fifth of seven sons of Sir Moyle Finch, 1st Baronet (–1614) and the former Elizabeth Heneage (1556–1634). Among his siblings were Theophilus, Thomas and Francis Finch.
