Thomas Baker (Alaska Politician)
Thomas C. Baker (born 1995) is an American politician from Alaska who represents District 40 in the Alaska House of Representatives. Early life and education Baker was born in Kotzebue, Alaska in 1995 and is the son of lobbyist Andy Baker. He graduated from Kotzebue High School in 2013, going on to obtain a bachelor's degree in English from Dartmouth College in 2017. Early career Baker has served on the Kotzebue city and tribal councils. In 2020, he unsuccessfully ran for the state senate against incumbent Donny Olson. At the time of his appointment to the House, Baker was chair of the regional advisory council for the Federal Subsistence Board and working as a construction manager for the Kikiktagruk Inupiat Corporation. Kotzebue
Kotzebue ( ) or Qikiqtaġruk ( , ) is a city in the Northwest Arctic Borough in the U.S. state of Alaska. It is the County seat, borough's seat, by far its largest community and the economic and transportation hub of the subregion of Alaska encompassing the borough. National Petroleum Reserve–Alaska
The National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska (NPRA) is an area of land on the Alaska North Slope owned by the United States federal government and managed by the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management (BLM). It lies to the west of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, which, as a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service managed National Wildlife Refuge, is also federal land. At a size of , the NPRA is the largest tract of undisturbed public land in the United States. Inupiat live in several villages around its perimeter, the largest of which is Utqiaġvik, the seat of the North Slope Borough. The Maniilaq Association is a tribally-operated health and social services organization serving the Northwest Arctic Borough and the North Slope community of Point Hope. Maniilaq has over 500 employees and is the largest employer in the region.
