"Thin Line Between Love and Hate" is the title of a 1971 song by the New York City-based R&B vocal group The Persuaders. The song was written and produced by the Poindexter brothers, Robert and Richard, and was also co-written by Robert's wife, Jackie Members. Composition The song tells a story about a man coming home early in the morning to his understanding wife one too many times; after the song's bridge, he finds himself lying in a hospital, bandaged from head to foot. Chart history This was the group's biggest hit song, spending two weeks atop the '' Billboard'' R&B chart in late 1971. The Persuaders are a New York City-based R&B vocal group best known for their gold hit single in the 1970s, "Thin Line Between Love and Hate". It sold over a million copies, topping the Billboard R&B chart, and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America on October 29, 1971. Career The original members - Douglas "Smokey" Scott, Willie Holland, James Barnes, and Charles Stodghill - formed the group in New York in 1969 after previously singing with other local groups. Scott, Holland, and Barnes had been members of The Independents, whereas Stodghill had previously sung with the group The Topics. Arturo Molina Jr. (born May 31, 1962), better known as Frost (originally Kid Frost), is an American rapper, songwriter and record producer from Los Angeles. He is the father of record producer Scoop DeVille. Early life Molina was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and occasionally lived with his family in military bases in Guam and Germany. '' Billboard'' published a weekly chart in 1971 ranking the top-performing singles in the United States in soul music and related African American-oriented music genres; the chart has undergone various name changes over the decades to reflect the evolution of such genres and since 2005 has been published as Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. In 1971, it was published under the title Best Selling Soul Singles, and 21 different singles topped the chart. In the issue of ''Billboard'' dated January 2, King Floyd reached number one with " Groove Me", displacing the final number one of 1970, "Stoned Love" by the Supremes. Shirley Murdock (born May 22, 1957) is an American R&B singer-songwriter, who is best known for her 1986 R&B hit single "As We Lay" and for her vocals on Zapp and Roger's hit single " Computer Love". Roger Troutman (November 29, 1951 – April 25, 1999), also known as Roger, was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, multi-instrumentalist and the founder of the band Zapp who helped spearhead the funk movement and heavily influenced West Coast hip hop due to the scene's heavy sampling of his music over the years. Troutman was well known for his use of the talk box, a device that is connected to an instrument (frequently a keyboard, but most commonly a guitar) to create different vocal effects. H-Town was founded in 1990 by twin brothers Keven "Dino" Conner ( 1974 – 2003), Solomon “Shazam" Conner and their friend Darryl "G.I." Jackson. H-Town recorded six hits during the early to mid–1990s.
