Radio Musicola
''Radio Musicola'' is the third studio album by English singer-songwriter Nik Kershaw, released on 24 October 1986 by MCA Records, just under two years after Kershaw's previous studio album, '' The Riddle'' (1984). It was the first studio album to be produced by Kershaw. It features guest backing vocalists, including Icehouse's Iva Davies, and Night's Stevie Lange, and Miriam Stockley. The album was released to critical acclaim, but wasn't as successful as Kershaw's previous studio albums. It peaked at #47 on the UK Albums Chart, marking the beginning of a downturn in Kershaw's fortunes on the album charts. Four singles were issued from ''Radio Musicola'': "When a Heart Beats", " Nobody Knows", "Radio Musicola", and "James Cagney", but none of them reached the Top 20, a first for Kershaw. However, Kershaw did find some minor success with the aforementioned single "When a Heart Beats" (which was not featured on the LP release, only on the cassette and CD versions of the album ... 15 Minutes (Nik Kershaw Album)
''15 Minutes'' is the fifth studio album by English singer-songwriter Nik Kershaw, released on 6 April 1999. Background In a 2008 interview, Kershaw spoke of two tracks from the album after being asked for his proudest song. Critical reception Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic described the album as an "immaculately produced collection of modern mature pop", but felt the album concentrated too much on "sonic texture" rather than the songwriting. He concluded: "It's easy to admire the craft behind the production and the subtle songwriting, even if the songs don't work their way into your subconscious." Tom Roland of ''The Tennessean'' wrote: "Kershaw delivers ''15 Minutes'' with a Brit boy-next-door disposition and a bed of guitars, in a swirl of restrained, midtempo pop." Dana Tofig of the ''Hartford Courant'' commented: "Kershaw has put out a new album that testifies he should have received much more time in the spotlight. ''15 Minutes'', although inconsistent, is filled wi ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Somebody Loves You (Nik Kershaw Song)
"Somebody Loves You" is a song from English singer-songwriter Nik Kershaw, which was released in 1999 as the lead single from his fifth studio album ''15 Minutes''. The song was written and produced by Kershaw. "Somebody Loves You" reached No. 70 in the UK Singles Chart. Background Speaking to Amanda Cagan and Melissa Sprawl in 1999, Kershaw said of the song's message, "When you're up on stage, it feels like there's so much love coming off the audience. While it's good to experience that, you have to remember it's not for you, but something being projected onto you. You can enjoy it while it's happening, but it's very dangerous if you start believing it." He expanded further in a 1998 interview with ''Kuno On Line'', "he song isabout being on stage and being famous. It's a negative look on what you get when you are famous, and when I was famous. I became the person I was playing in publicity. You know, you walk into a room. You didn't have to try too hard. Everyone knew who you we ... Commonly nicknamed the "Rocket Man" after his 1972 hit single of the same name, John has led a commercially successful career as a solo artist since the 1970s, having released 31 albums since 1969. Collaborating with lyricist Bernie Taupin since 1967, John is acclaimed by critics and musicians, particularly for his work during the 1970s, and his lasting impact on the music industry. Elisabeth's Eyes
"Elisabeth's Eyes" is a song by English musician Nik Kershaw, which was released as the second and final single from his fourth studio album '' The Works'' (1989). It was written by Kershaw, and produced by Kershaw and Julian Mendelsohn. Background Kershaw began writing material for his fourth studio album in early 1987 and went to Los Angeles later in the year to record with producer Peter Wolf. Ten tracks were completed, but Kershaw was ultimately dissatisfied with the results. When he returned to England, he began remixing and re-recording the material with the help of Julian Mendelsohn. Kershaw also decided to drop two of the intended tracks and replace them with two new ones, "One Step Ahead" and "Elisabeth's Eyes". "Elisabeth's Eyes" was inspired by the pen pal relationship of Elisabeth Allan, a teacher from Essex, and Willie Darden, an African American man who served 14 years on death row and was executed in 1988 in Florida for murder during the course of a robbery. The Works (Nik Kershaw Album)
The Works is the fourth studio album by the English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nik Kershaw. It was released in 1989 and was the last album he created for MCA Records. Kershaw chose the album's title as he felt the album represented "the collected works of Nik Kershaw". He did not release any new solo material until ''15 Minutes'', 10 years later. The album was not commercially successful, though the lead single " One Step Ahead" reached No. #55 in the UK. " Elisabeth's Eyes", the second and final single, failed to chart altogether. Although the album was produced by Peter Wolf and co-produced by Brian Malouf, both singles were written shortly after Kershaw became unhappy with Wolf's production and his direction for the album. They were produced by Kershaw and Julian Mendelsohn, with the two also re-working the production of the entire album, earning them an additional production credit. After its original release, the album remained out of print on any forma ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
