Thea Von Harbou
Thea Gabriele von Harbou (27 December 1888 – 1 July 1954) was a German screenwriter, novelist, film director, and actress. She is remembered as the screenwriter of the science fiction film classic ''Metropolis'' (1927) and for the 1925 novel on which it was based. Harbou collaborated as a screenwriter with film director Fritz Lang, her husband, during the period of transition from silent to sound films. Early life, family, and education Thea von Harbou was born in Tauperlitz (now part of Döhlau), Bavaria, in 1888, into a family of minor nobility and government officials, which gave her a level of sophisticated comfort. As a child, she was educated in a convent by private tutors who taught her several languages as well as piano and violin. She was a child prodigy. Tauperlitz
Tauperlitz and Neutauperlitz are two merged former districts, now in the municipality of Döhlau in the district of Hof. The original settlement grew up along an old roadway, and is first mentioned in 1348 in a letter of foundation by Friedrich von Hohenlohe, bishop of Bamberg. The motte-and-bailey castle of Tauperlitz (''Turmhügelburg Tauperlitz''), not far from the Southern Regnitz river, is significant in terms of settlement history. In the Margraviate of Brandenburg-Kulmbach there was a manor here that formed part of the '' Vogtländische Ritterschaft'' (an association of knightly estates in the Vogtland) and was endowed with the legal right of direct access to the higher courts (''Schriftsässigkeit''). Erich Karl Heinrich Kettelhut (1 November 1893 – 13 March 1979) was a German production designer, Art director#In film, art director and set decorator. Kettelhut is considered one of the most important artists in the history of early German cinema, mainly for his set direction for ''Die Nibelungen'' (1924) and his design and visual effects for ''Metropolis (1927 film), Metropolis'' (1927). His early career was defined by a working relationship with fellow designers Otto Hunte and Karl Vollbrecht, the trio working on many of Fritz Lang's early German films. Trümmerfrau (; literally translated as rubble woman) is the German-language name for women who, in the aftermath of World War II, helped clear and reconstruct the bombed cities of Germany and Austria. Hundreds of cities had suffered significant bombing and firestorm damage through aerial attacks and ground war, so with many men dead or prisoners of war, this monumental task fell to a large degree on women. ''Hanneles Himmelfahrt'' is a 1934 German drama film directed by Thea von Harbou and starring Inge Landgut. It is set in a small mountain village and tells the story of Hannele, an unhappy girl who is beaten by her stepfather and tries to commit suicide. The film is based on the play ''The Assumption of Hannele'' by Gerhart Hauptmann. It has strong Christian themes. An earlier adaptation of the play directed by Urban Gad was released in 1922. Peter Kürten
Peter Kürten (; 26 May 1883 – 2 July 1931) was a German serial killer, known as "The Vampire of Düsseldorf" and the "Düsseldorf Monster", who committed a series of murders and sexual assaults between February and November 1929 in the city of Düsseldorf. In the years before these assaults and murders, Kürten had amassed a lengthy criminal record for offences including arson and attempted murder. He also confessed to the 1913 murder of a nine-year-old girl in Mülheim am Rhein and the attempted murder of a 17-year-old girl in Düsseldorf.
