''Thea Roland'' or ''The Adventure of Thea Roland'' (German: ''Das Abenteuer der Thea Roland'') is a 1932 German comedy film directed by Henry Koster and starring Lil Dagover, Hans Rehmann and Margarete Kupfer. The film marked the directorial debut of Koster, who was forced to emigrate from Germany by the Nazi party following his next film and later went on to be a leading Hollywood director. Henry Koster
Henry Koster (born Hermann Kosterlitz, May 1, 1905 – September 21, 1988) was a German-born film director. He was the husband of actress Peggy Moran. Early life Koster was born to Jewish parents in Berlin, Germany. He was introduced to cinema about 1910 when his uncle opened a movie theater in Berlin. Koster's mother played the piano to accompany the films, leaving the young boy to occupy himself by watching the films. After working initially as a short story writer, Kosterlitz was hired by a Berlin movie company as scenarist, becoming an assistant to director Curtis Bernhardt. Bernhardt became sick one day and asked Kosterlitz to take over as director. Career In 1932, Koster directed his first film in Berlin, the comedy ''Thea Roland''. Koster, who was in the midst of directing his second film ''Das häßliche Mädchen'', had been the subject of antisemitism, and knew he had to leave. Kurt Vespermann (1 May 1887 – 13 July 1957) was a German stage and film actor. Career Vespermann was born into an actor's family in Culmsee, West Prussia, Imperial Germany today Chełmża, Poland. Already his great-grandparents were actors and directors at different operas and theatres. Vespermann began his career in 1913 at the Royal Schauspielhaus Berlin and first appeared in silent movies in 1915. Olly Gebauer (1908–1937) was an Austrian film actress.Vieira p.151 During the early sound era she established herself in the German film industry. Following the rise of the Nazi Party to power in 1933 she fled into exile with her Jewish husband, director Max Nosseck. In 1934 she starred in a Portuguese film '' Wild Cattle'' (1934) before they settled in her native Vienna. She died in 1937 after a long illness.
