''The Young Runaways'' is a 1978 American made-for-television drama family film produced by Walt Disney Productions starring Gary Collins, Anne Francis, Sharon Farrell and Robert Webber. It originally aired on NBC as part of ''The Wonderful World of Disney'' on May 28, 1978. Synopsis "The Young Runaways" are a 12-year-old girl (Alicia Fleer) and her 5-year-old brother (Tommy Crebbs), while on a mission to "kidnap" their brother and sister from a foster home, accidentally become entangled with bank robbers (Anne Francis and Robert Webber) and a precocious, wealthy youngster eager to mastermind the caper. Sy Gomberg
Sy Gomberg (August 19, 1918 – February 11, 2001) was an American Oscar-nominated film screenwriter, producer, and activist, who taught screenwriting to University of Southern California students for over a decades. Gomberg was born in New York City, and grew up in Newark, New Jersey. He spent World War II in the First Motion Picture Unit in Hollywood. After the war, he was a contributor to ''Collier's Weekly'' and the ''Saturday Evening Post''. In 1951, he received an Academy Award nomination for ''When Willie Comes Marching Home'' – which was based on a story Gomberg originally wrote for ''Collier's''. He was also nominated the same year for Best Screenplay for ''Summer Stock''. He also created, produced and wrote the 1960s ABC legal drama ''The Law and Mr. Jones'' starring James Whitmore. Richard Bakalyan (January 29, 1931 – February 27, 2015) was an American actor who started his career playing juvenile delinquents in his first several films. Early life Richard Bakalyan was born on January 29, 1931, in Watertown, Massachusetts, the son of Armenian-born William Nishan Bakalyan and Elsie Florence (née Fancy) Bakalyan, a Canadian from Nova Scotia. He had two brothers. His father died in 1939, when Richard was 8. Growing up in a tough neighborhood, Bakalyan learned boxing to defend himself in street fights.
