''The Wreck of the B.S.M. Pandora'' is a science fiction board game published by Simulations Publications, Inc. (SPI) in 1980. Description The B.S.M. Pandora, a biological survey mission space ship in the distant future, has crash-landed on a planet during its mission to collect alien life forms. The crew faces two dangers: if the ship systems fail, they will die; and the dangerous alien life forms they had been transporting have escaped and are now roaming the ship. In this cooperative game, 1–5 players act as crew members trying to find tools to repair the spacecraft before the systems fail, as well as searching for weapons to kill or recapture the escaped aliens. Components The game comes with: * 11" x 17" paper map of the ship * 100 die-cut counters * rulesheet The boxed set also contains two 6-sided dice. ''Ares'' was an American science fiction wargame magazine published by Simulations Publications, Inc. (SPI), and then TSR, Inc., between 1980 and 1984. In addition to the articles, each issue contained a wargame, complete with a foldout stiff paper map, a set of cardboard counters, and the rules. Publication history Simulations Publications, Inc. (SPI) began publishing ''Ares'' in 1980 as a science-fiction companion to ''Strategy & Tactics''.''Ares'' magazine was similar to ''Strategy & Tactics'', with a game every issue, but it focused on science-fiction and fantasy. Jim Dunnigan
James F. Dunnigan (born 8 August 1943) is an author, military-political analyst, Defense and State Department consultant, and Wargaming, wargame designer currently living in New York City. Career Dunnigan was born in Rockland County, New York. After high school, he volunteered for the military instead of waiting to be drafted. From 1961 to 1964, he worked as a repair technician for the MGM-29 Sergeant, Sergeant ballistic missile; his service included a tour in Korea. Afterwards, he attended Pace University studying accounting, then transferred to Columbia University, graduating with a degree in history in 1970. While still in college, he became involved in wargaming. He designed ''Jutland (board game), Jutland'', which Avalon Hill published in 1967, following it up with ''1914 (game), 1914'' the next year, and ''PanzerBlitz'' in 1970, which eventually sold more than 300,000 copies. Cooperative board games are board games in which players work together to achieve a common goal rather than competing against each other. Either the players win the game by reaching a pre-determined objective, or all players lose the game, often by not reaching the objective before a certain event ends the game.
