The West Point Story (TV Series)
''The West Point Story'', also known simply as ''West Point'', is a dramatic anthology television series shown in the United States by CBS during the 1956–57 season and by ABC during the 1957–58 season. History ''The West Point Story'', produced with the full cooperation of the United States Department of Defense and the United States Military Academy, was said to be based on actual files documenting many of the real-life dramatic occurrences at West Point over the years. Names and dates were altered in order to protect the privacy of the real people portrayed, however. The program was hosted by a fictional cadet, Charles C. Thompson (portrayed by actor Donald May). Philip Egner
Philip Egner (April 17, 1870 – February 3, 1956) was a U.S. military bandmaster who served as longtime director of the U.S. Army's West Point Band. As a child, Egner was a musical prodigy. During his early career he performed with the Metropolitan Opera and New York Philharmonic, but left civilian life to join the U.S. Army at the outbreak of the Spanish–American War, spending three years in the Philippines as bandmaster of the 17th Infantry Regiment. He would later be appointed band director at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and is best remembered for composing " On, Brave Old Army Team", West Point's fight song. Navy Log
''Navy Log'' is an American drama anthology series created by Samuel Gallu that presented stories from the history of the United States Navy. This series ran on CBS from September 20, 1955, until September 25, 1956.On October 17, 1956, it moved to ABC, where it aired until September 25, 1958. It changed networks because CBS "could not schedule it to the sponsor's wishes". The program aired for a total of three seasons and 104 episodes. The Department of Defense and departments of the Navy cooperated with production of the filmed 30-minute series. In conjunction with that cooperation, the Navy Information Office solicited suggestions for stories, accompanied by brief documentation, with a Navy Log Project Officer in charge. The opening scene, filmed aboard the U.S.S. Hancock, showed 2,000 sailors forming the words "Navy Log". The program's theme was "The Navy Log March" by Fred Steiner. ''Harbor Command'' is an American police series that was syndicated from October 11, 1957, to July 4, 1958. The series stars Wendell Corey as Captain Ralph Baxter, an officer of the Harbor Police of a large coastal city (the city is unnamed, but much of the series was filmed in San Francisco and San Diego). The series was produced by Ziv Television Programs, with the assistance of the law enforcement arms of Harbor and Port Authorities across the country. ''The $64,000 Question'' was an American game show broadcast in primetime on CBS-TV from 1955 to 1958, which became embroiled in the 1950s quiz show scandals. Contestants answered general knowledge questions, earning money which doubled as the questions became more difficult. The final question had a top prize of $64,000 (), hence the "$64,000 Question" in the show's title. ''The $64,000 Challenge'' (1956–1958) was its spin-off show, where contestants played against winners of at least $8,000 on ''The $64,000 Question''. The California Gold Rush (1848–1855) was a gold rush that began on January 24, 1848, when gold was found by James W. Marshall at Sutter's Mill in Coloma, California. The news of gold brought approximately 300,000 people to California from the rest of the United States and abroad. The sudden influx of gold into the money supply reinvigorated the American economy; the sudden population increase allowed California to go rapidly to statehood, in the Compromise of 1850. The Gold Rush had severe effects on Native Californians and accelerated the Native American population's decline from disease, starvation and the California genocide. ''The Californians'' is a half-hour Western television series, set during the California Gold Rush of the 1850s, which was broadcast by NBC from September 24, 1957, to May 26, 1959, for 69 episodes. Cast The series was set in San Francisco. Adam Kennedy starred in the first year in early episodes as Dion Patrick, an Irish newspaperman who helps the local vigilante committee. Donald May
Donald Adam May (February 22, 1929 – January 28, 2022) was an American actor who was known for his roles in '' Colt .45'' (1957–1960) and ''The Edge of Night''. Early years May was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Leontine Frances (Torczynski) and Harry Stuart May. He attended elementary school in Houston, Texas, and graduated from Shaker Heights High School in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1949, he graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor of arts degree. May joined the U.S. Navy in 1951 and was discharged in 1955.
