The Warden (TV Series)
''The Warden'' is a British television mini-series broadcast by the BBC in 1951 in six parts. An adaptation by Cedric Wallis of Anthony Trollope's 1855 novel ''The Warden'', it was produced by Campbell Logan and sets were designed by Roy Oxley. Cast included J.H. Roberts, Thea Holme, Lockwood West, Avice Landone, David Markham, Arthur Hambling, Christopher Steele, Arthur Wontner, Lucille Lisle and Horace Sequiera, with Leonard Sachs as the narrator. Lucille Lisle
Lucille Lisle (1908–2004) was an Australian actress. Born Lucille Hunter Jonas in Melbourne, Australia on 16 May 1908, she began appearing in local stage productions at age 11. In 1930 she moved to New York where she appeared in touring companies. In 1932 moved to Britain and had her greatest success in the West End. In 1942, she married Lieutenant Nicholas Harris, a Royal Navy officer. She then limited her work to radio drama before retiring in 1958. She died in Kent, England on 23 September 2004. Lost television broadcasts are mostly those early television programs which cannot be accounted for in studio archives (or in personal archives) usually because of deliberate destruction or neglect. Common reasons for loss A significant proportion of early television programming was never recorded in the first place. Early broadcasting in all genres was live and sometimes performed repeatedly. Due to there being no means to record the broadcast or, later, because the content itself was thought to have little monetary or historical value it was not deemed necessary to save it. In the United Kingdom, early programming was lost due to contractual demands by the actors' union to limit the rescreening of performances. Apart from Phonovision experiments by John Logie Baird, and some 280 rolls of 35mm film containing some of Paul Nipkow television station broadcasts, no recordings of transmissions from 1939 or earlier are known to exist.
