The Utopia Strong
The Utopia Strong are a British electronic band formed in Glastonbury, England in 2018. The group are composed of Steve Davis, Kavus Torabi, and Michael J. York. They released their self-titled debut album in 2019 and their second, ''International Treasure'', in 2022. History The Utopia Strong originated from an experimental improvised session in Glastonbury on the evening of 2 January 2018. Steve Davis, a six-time World Snooker Champion, was recognised for his love of progressive rock, soul and jazz-funk. He booked the French progressive rock band Magma to play three sold-out nights at the Bloomsbury Theatre and later became a DJ with the radio show Interesting Alternative on Phoenix FM. At a Magma gig, Davis bonded with Iranian-born musician Kavus Torabi, a storied guitarist with Gong and Cardiacs. Davis and Torabi met Coil's Michael J. Glastonbury
Glastonbury (, ) is a town and civil parish in Somerset, England, situated at a dry point on the low-lying Somerset Levels, south of Bristol. The town, which is in the Mendip district, had a population of 8,932 in the 2011 census. Glastonbury is less than across the River Brue from Street, which is now larger than Glastonbury. Evidence from timber trackways such as the Sweet Track show that the town has been inhabited since Neolithic times. Glastonbury Lake Village was an Iron Age village, close to the old course of the River Brue and Sharpham Park approximately west of Glastonbury, that dates back to the Bronze Age. Centwine was the first Saxon patron of Glastonbury Abbey, which dominated the town for the next 700 years. Gong (band)
Gong are a progressive rock band that incorporates elements of jazz and space rock into their musical style. The group was formed in Paris in 1967 by Australian musician Daevid Allen and English vocalist Gilli Smyth. Band members have included Didier Malherbe, Pip Pyle, Steve Hillage, Mike Howlett, Pierre Moerlen, Bill Laswell and Theo Travis. Others who have played on stage with Gong include Don Cherry, Chris Cutler, Bill Bruford, Brian Davison, Dave Stewart and Tatsuya Yoshida. Gong's 1970 debut album, ''Magick Brother'', featured a psychedelic pop sound. By the following year, the second album, ''Camembert Electrique'', featured the more psychedelic rock/space rock sound with which they would be most associated. ''Guitarist'' is a British monthly music making magazine published by Future plc. It is the longest-established European guitar magazine, and is currently the biggest-selling guitar magazine in the UK. Steve Hillage
Stephen Simpson Hillage (born 2 August 1951) is an English musician, best known as a guitarist. He is associated with the Canterbury scene and has worked in experimental domains since the late 1960s. Besides his solo sound recording and reproduction, recordings he has been a member of Khan (band), Khan, Gong (band), Gong and System 7 (band), System 7. History Bands 1968–75 Hillage was born in Chingford, which was then in Essex but is now part of Greater London. Whilst still at school, he joined his first band, a blues rock band called Uriel (band), Uriel, with Dave Stewart (keyboardist), Dave Stewart, Mont Campbell and Clive Brooks. The band split up in 1968 with the other members going on to form Egg (band), Egg, but they briefly re-united under assumed names to record the album ''Arzachel (band), Arzachel'' in 1969. ''Bristol24/7'' is an independent online newspaper, generally branded as ''B24/7'', offering news, comment and features for the city of Bristol. As of 2023, it had a print circulation of 20,000, with, on average, 250,000 unique monthly visitors to its website.
