The Ten Commandments (1945 Film)
''The Ten Commandments'' (Italian: ''I dieci comandamenti'') is a 1945 Italian drama film directed by Giorgio Walter Chili. It features an ensemble of Italian actors in episodes based on the Ten Commandments. It was made during the German occupation of Rome, which brought a halt to all ongoing work at Italian film studios. Only two films made with Holy See, Vatican support went into production at the time, providing employment for actors and technicians. The other film was Vittorio De Sica's ''The Gates of Heaven''. Their work on the films enabled them to refuse demands that they relocate north to work in the Venice-based film industry of the puppet Italian Social Republic.Gundle, Stephen. Vera Carmi (23 November 1914 – 6 September 1969) was an Italian film actress. She appeared in more than 50 films between 1940 and 1956. She was born in Turin, Italy and died in Rome, Italy. Life and career Carmi was born Virginia Doglioli in Turin. After being spotted by the director Ferdinando Maria Poggioli in a beauty contest, she made her film debut in 1940, in a supporting role in Poggioli's ''Goodbye Youth (1940 film), Goodbye Youth'' and in a short time she became one of the most requested actresses in the Telefoni Bianchi genre. After the war she got critical acclaim for a number of dramatic performances, notably Mario Soldati's ''His Young Wife'' and Luciano Emmer's ''Sunday in August''. She was also very active on stage. Rossano Brazzi (18 September 1916 – 24 December 1994) was an Italian actor. Biography Brazzi was born in Bologna, Italy, the son of Maria Ghedini and Adelmo Brazzi, an employee of the Rizzoli shoe factory. He was named after Rossano Veneto, where his father was stationed during his military service in World War I. Carlo Romano (8 May 1908 – 16 October 1975) was an Italian actor, voice actor and screenwriter. Biography Born in Livorno, Romano was the son of actress Dina Romano and the younger brother of actor Felice Romano. Romano started his acting career on stage in 1927. During World War II, he committed himself to starring mainly in revues and he still remained active in cinema, theatre, radio and television. In 1939, Romano began his radio acting career. Otello Toso (22 February 1914 – 15 March 1966) was an Italian film and stage actor. Born in Padua, Toso graduated from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in 1939 and immediately later he started his film career. He was particularly prolific in the 1940s, in films in which he usually starred negative characters.
