''The Surfer'' (also known as '' Death Wave'') is a 1986 Australian film directed by Frank Shields and starring Gary Day and Gosia Dobrowolska. It was filmed in South-East Queensland. Frank Shields
Francis Xavier Alexander Shields Sr. (November 18, 1909 – August 19, 1975) was an American amateur tennis player of the 1920s and 1930s, and an actor known for '' Hoosier Schoolboy'' (1937). Tennis career Between 1928 and 1945 he was ranked eight times in the U.S. Top Ten, reaching No. 1 in 1933, and No. 2 in 1930. He was ranked world No. 5 in 1930 by A. Wallis Myers of The Daily Telegraph. Shields beat Wilmer Allison and Sidney Wood before losing to John Doeg in the final of the 1930 U.S. Championships. Shields defaulted to Sidney Wood in the singles final of Wimbledon in 1931 due to an ankle injury he had sustained in winning his semi-final match against France's "Musketeer" Jean Borotra, and this was the only time in the history of a Grand Slam event the singles final of that event was won by default. Gary Day (born 10 November 1941) is a New Zealand former actor, playwright and lighting director who has appeared in Australian television police drama series, including ''Homicide'' and ''Murder Call''. Television Day worked as a male model and appeared in several television commercials. This led to guest roles in episodes of '' Skippy the Bush Kangaroo'', police dramas ''The Link Men'', '' The Long Arm'', ''Homicide'' and ''Matlock Police'' produced by Crawford Productions. This culminated in the regular role of Senior Detective Phillip Redford in Crawford's series ''Homicide'' in 1973. Redford was a university graduate who had served as a bomb disposal expert in Vietnam, and was anti-violence as a result. Day was the only cast member who appeared in all colour episodes of ''Homicide'' until it ceased production in 1975. Tony Barry
Tony Barry (28 August 1941 – 21 December 2022) was an Australian actor and activist best known for his television and film roles. Personal life Barry was born in Ipswich, Queensland, on 28 August 1941. He had one son. Barry was an environmental and indigenous rights activist and considered himself "an honorary Kiwi". Barry is the only Australian who was featured on a New Zealand postage stamp. He took part in political rallies and was a volunteer for rehabilitation programs for indigenous rights groups. He visited high schools where he would promote environmentalism. Health Barry was diagnosed with melanoma in the early 2000s. In 2014, between seasons of the television drama series '' The Time of Our Lives'', Barry had his left leg amputated above the knee due to the illness.
