The Strongest Man In History
The Strongest Man in History is a History Channel original series, which premiered on July 7, 2019. It is a reality-show that takes four strongmen, Eddie Hall, Brian Shaw, Robert Oberst, and Nick Best around the world investigating strongmen legends and trying to beat the legend and each other in a quest to prove who really is the Strongest Man in History. The first season consisted of seven episodes. Donald Dinnie
Donald Dinnie (10 July 1837 – 2 April 1916) was a Scottish strongman, born at Balnacraig, Birse, near Aboyne, Aberdeenshire. Sometimes regarded as "The Nineteenth Century's greatest athlete", Dinnie's athletic career spanned over 50 years, and over 11,000 successful competitions. Early life The son of stonemason Robert Dinnie, born on 10 July 1837, he was one of eight sons, and had two sisters. Also known for being a poet, author and historian, Robert and his wife were married in 1836. Dinnie won his first sporting event, at the age of 16, in the nearby village of Kincardine O'Neil. Braemar is a village in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, around west of Aberdeen in the Highlands. William Frederick Cody (February 26, 1846January 10, 1917), known as "Buffalo Bill", was an American soldier, Bison hunting, bison hunter, and showman. He was born in Le Claire, Iowa, Le Claire, Iowa Territory (now the U.S. state of Iowa), but he lived for several years in his father's hometown in modern-day Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, before the family returned to the Midwest and settled in the Kansas Territory. William Bankier
William Bankier (10 December 1870 – 4 September 1949) billed as 'Apollo, the Scottish Hercules', was a strongman stage performer who in 1915 and 1919 was also 'King Rat' of the showbusiness charity the Grand Order of Water Rats. Early years Born in Banff in Scotland, the eldest of four sons of William Bankier (1845–1900), a hand loom weaver, and his wife Mary Ann (née Clark) (1844– 1901), as a child he became fascinated by the idea of being a circus performer, and aged 12 he ran away from home and joined a circus as a labourer. Cody is a city in Northwest Wyoming and the seat of government of Park County, Wyoming, United States. It is named after Colonel William Frederick " Buffalo Bill" Cody for his part in the founding of Cody in 1896. The population was 10,066 at the 2020 census. Thomas Topham (c. 1710 – 10 August 1749), of London, was a famous strongman of the 18th century. Life Topham was the son of a carpenter who apprenticed him to his own trade. In early life he was landlord of the Red Lion Inn, near old St. Luke's Hospital, and, though he failed there in business, soon gained profit and notoriety by his feats of strength. His first public exhibition consisted in pulling against a horse while lying on his back with his feet against the dwarf wall that divided Upper and Lower Moorfields. Paul Anderson (weightlifter)
Paul Edward Anderson (October 17, 1932August 15, 1994) was an American weightlifter, strongman, and powerlifter. He was an Olympic gold medalist, a world champion, and a two-time national champion in Olympic weightlifting. Anderson contributed significantly to the development of competitive powerlifting. Early life Anderson was born in Toccoa, Georgia, the only son of Ethel Bennett and Robert Anderson. As a teenager, he began his early weight training and training on his own in his family's backyard to increase his size and strength so that he would be able to play on the Toccoa High School football team, where he earned a position as first-team blocking back.
