''The Sound the Hare Heard'' is a 2006 compilation of mostly acoustic arrangements by a number of singer-songwriters, both well-known and relatively obscure. Kill Rock Stars founder Slim Moon was the driving force behind the album, but not all of the artists on the album are signed by Kill Rock Stars; rather, the uniting factor of the compilation is the singer-songwriter status of each artist and various connecting themes between the songs. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Independent labels such as Flying Nun Records, Flying Nun began to promote the scene across New Zealand, inspiring key college rock bands in the United States such as Pavement (band), Pavement, Pixies (band), Pixies and R.E.M. Imaad Wasif
Imaad Wasif is an Indian singer, guitarist and songwriter whose music combines elements of psychedelic folk and rock. Wasif’s music has been described as "unbelievably intense with sparkling, raga-influenced guitar and a mystic bent." In 2006, he started releasing solo albums. Also during 2006–2008, Wasif played with Yeah Yeah Yeahs for the Show Your Bones world tour playing acoustic guitar, bass and synths. He performed as the supporting act for most shows. He stopped touring with YYY's in 2008 to focus on his own music. Wasif assumed more of a collaborative role, writing songs with Karen O for the soundtrack to ''Where the Wild Things Are'' (2009), most notably the song, "Hideaway." Lauren Hoffman
Lauren Hoffman (born 1977) is an American singer-songwriter. She released her debut album ''Megiddo'' through Virgin Records in 1997 to critical praise. In 1999 Hoffman independently issued her second LP ''From The Blue House'' and an EP, ''A Harmless Little Kiss.'' Her third album ''Choreography'' was released through French record label Fargo Records in 2006 and includes her single "Broken". She released her next album ''Interplanetary Traveler'' in 2010. Danielle Howle
Danielle Howle (born in Columbia, South Carolina) is an American singer-songwriter and music producer. Biography After releasing an early song on a Columbia, South Carolina music sampler in the late 1980s, Howle joined the Columbia-based band Lay Quiet Awhile, formed by brothers Dan and Phil Cook in 1989. Howle was the voice on their first full-length album, ''Delicate Wire'', released in 1993. When Lay Quiet Awhile disbanded, Howle embarked on a solo career, beginning with a live album recorded at the University of South Carolina's McKissick Museum. Southerly is a United States musical act, a solo project of Krist Kreuger. The Madison, Wisconsin native started the project in 2001, releasing an EP, but put it on hiatus to focus on building his own independent booking agency, ''The Crow Agency''. Nedelle Torrisi is an American musician who lives in Brooklyn, New York. Biography Torrisi grew up studying classical violin and performing in musicals. Simone White (born February 7, 1970) is an American singer-songwriter. Life and career Simone White appeared in the 1984 comedy-drama " The Wild Life" written by Cameron Crowe and directed by Art Linson. Eddie Van Halen and Donn Landee composed the film's score. Great Lake Swimmers is a Canadian folk rock band from Wainfleet, Ontario, and currently based in Toronto.
