"The Shoes You're Wearing" is a song co-written and recorded by American country music artist Clint Black. It was released in April 1998 as the fourth single from Black's ''Nothin' but the Taillights'' album. The song reached Number One on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) chart and reached number one in Canada. It was written by Black and Hayden Nicholas. Clint Patrick Black (born February 4, 1962) is an American country music singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. Signed to RCA Nashville in 1989, Black's debut album '' Killin' Time'' produced four straight number one singles on the US '' Billboard'' Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts. Although his momentum gradually slowed throughout the 1990s, Black consistently charted hit songs into the 2000s. He has had more than 30 singles on the US ''Billboard'' country charts, twenty-two of which have reached number one, in addition to having released twelve studio albums and several compilation albums. ''Nothin' but the Taillights'' is the seventh studio album by American country music singer Clint Black. Black co-wrote many of the songs with others and played much of the guitar himself for this album. "Something That We Do", "Nothin' but the Taillights", and "The Shoes You're Wearing" were hit singles. The latter two of those three songs reached #1. The album is currently certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, RIAA. "Still Holding On" was co-written with Matraca Berg and Marty Stuart and performed as a duet with Martina McBride.
