''The Settlers of Zarahemla'' is a licensed adaptation of the German board game ''The Settlers of Catan'' by Klaus Teuber, based on the Book of Mormon. Gameplay in ''Zarahemla'' is nearly identical to the original, with several major differences - most notably, the game has been modified to suit two-player play as part of its official rules. Equipment Like ''Catan'', ''Zarahemla'' uses a somewhat modular board structure, but instead of individual hexes (as is the case of ''Catan''), ''Zarahemla'' uses five strips of hexes - one five-hex strip, two four-hex strips, and three-hex strips, which could be oriented and rearranged as in the standard game. Unlike ''Catan'', however, ''Zarahemla'''s hexes are placed on a fixed board, which itself contains the game's harbors, or ''trading posts''. Klaus Teuber
Klaus Teuber (born June 25, 1952) is a German former dental technician and designer of board games. He is best known for designing the strategy board game Catan. Career Teuber won the Spiel des Jahres ("Game of the Year") award four times: for ''The Settlers of Catan'', ''Barbarossa'', '' Drunter und Drüber'' and '' Adel Verpflichtet''. '' By Hook or Crook'' by Teuber was published in the American market by Avalon Hill in 1991, making it an early German style board game import. Personal life Teuber retired from his profession as a dental technician to become a full-time game designer in 1999. , he lives in Roßdorf with his wife Claudia. They have two sons, Guido and Benny. The Gadianton robbers (), according to the Book of Mormon, were a secret criminal organization in ancient America. First incarnation The society was first founded around 52 BC or 51 BC by Nephite supporters of Paanchi, an unsuccessful candidate for chief judge. Paanchi had been executed for treason when he refused to accept the election of his brother Pahoran II to the judgment seat and then tried to incite a revolution. One of his supporters, Kishkumen (), assassinated Pahoran in retaliation. Kishkumen and his associates entered into a pact to keep the assassin's identity a secret. A man, Gadianton, became the leader of Kishkumen's secret group. He arranged for Kishkumen to assassinate Chief Judge Helaman II by promising that if Gadianton were made chief judge, he would appoint the other members of the band to positions of authority.
