''The Sermon on Exposition Boulevard'' is an album by American singer-songwriter Rickie Lee Jones, released in February 2007 on the independent New West label. It was produced by Lee Cantelon, Peter Atanasoff and Rob Schnapf, additional production by Bernie Larsen. It was inspired by Lee Cantelon's book ''The Words'', which contains the essential teachings of Jesus rewritten for a modern audience. A special edition was also released, with an expanded booklet, a 5.1 surround mix, a Super Audio CD version of the record, MP3 copies of the album, and a 50-minute DVD that documents the project from its beginning. Rickie Lee Jones (born November 8, 1954) is an American singer, songwriter, musician, and author. Over the course of a career that spans five decades, she has recorded in various musical styles including Rock music, rock, Rhythm and blues, R&B, Pop music, pop, Soul music, soul, and jazz. Sunset, also known as sundown, is the daily disappearance of the Sun below the horizon due to Earth's rotation. As viewed from everywhere on Earth (except the North and South poles), the equinox Sun sets due west at the moment of both the spring and autumn equinoxes. Folk Rock
Folk rock is a hybrid music genre that combines the elements of folk and rock music, which arose in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom in the mid-1960s. New West Records is a record label based in Nashville, Tennessee, and Athens, Georgia. It had offices in Burbank, California, and Beverly Hills, California. Rob Schnapf
Rob Schnapf is an American record producer and musician. He was the co-producer (along with Tom Rothrock) of Elliott Smith's albums ''Either/Or'', '' XO'' (on which he also played guitar on the song " Baby Britain"), '' Figure 8'' and ''From a Basement on the Hill'', for which he was recruited by Smith's family to complete after Smith's death. Schnapf runs the Mant Sounds studio. Background Schnapf, along with Rothrock and partner Bradshaw Lambert, started Bong Load Custom Records in the early 1990s which is notable for releasing Beck's " Loser" single. Schnapf first heard Beck as he was playing on the street during the annual Sunset Junction Fair. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. It was founded in 1986 by broadcast journalists Mark Ellen and David Hepworth, who were presenters of the BBC television music series ''The Old Grey Whistle Test''. Pete Thomas (drummer)
Peter Michael Thomas (born 9 August 1954) is an English rock drummer best known for his collaboration with singer Elvis Costello, both as a member of his band the Attractions and with Costello as a solo artist. Besides his lengthy career as a studio musician and touring drummer, he has been a member of the band Squeeze during the 1990s and a member of the supergroup Works Progress Administration during the early 2000s. Jay Bellerose
Jay Bellerose is an American drummer and percussionist known primarily for his session and live performance work. He has contributed to the work of many well-known artists. Biography Bellerose was born in Maine. A jazz enthusiast, he attended the Berklee College of Music where he worked with Paula Cole, Torsten de Winkel and others, and eventually went Los Angeles where he was part of Joe Henry's band. Bellerose has been influenced by blues and jazz, and his sound is in part derived from his vintage 1940s Slingerland Rolling Bomber kit. He often performs with shakers strapped to his ankles. Joey Waronker
Jon Joseph Waronker (born May 20, 1969) is an American drummer and music producer. He is best known as a regular drummer of both Beck and R.E.M., and as member of the experimental rock bands Atoms for Peace and Ultraísta. Background Waronker was born in Los Angeles, the son of producer Lenny Waronker and actress and musician Donna Loren. He has two sisters (one being musician Anna Waronker) and two half-sisters. His grandfather was classical violinist Simon Waronker, namesake for the "Simon" character in the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise. Joey was a student of the renowned teacher Freddie Gruber.
