The Sergeant (1910 Film)
''The Sergeant'' is a 1910 American silent Western film directed and produced by Francis Boggs. It was written by and starred Hobart Bosworth. The film was shot on location in what was later to become Yosemite National Park in California. ''The Sergeant'' was part of a group of 75 early American films found in New Zealand in 2010. The film was preserved by the Academy Film Archive in 2012. Francis Boggs
Francis Winter Boggs (March 1870 – October 27, 1911) was an American stage actor and pioneer silent film film director, director. He was one of the first to direct a film in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, Hollywood. Biography He was born in Santa Rosa, California to George W. Boggs and Alabama McMeans. While in his teens he began acting with the Alcazar stock company in San Francisco and toured the Southwestern United States, American southwest. In 1900, he moved to Los Angeles, but in 1902, he went to Chicago, where he continued to work in theatre. There, he met William Nicholas Selig and in 1907 became involved with the making of motion pictures at Selig's Selig Polyscope Company, Polyscope studios in Chicago. With cameraman and jack of all trades Thomas Persons, Boggs made one of his earliest films, ''Monte Cristo''. Art Acord
Arthemus Ward "Art" Acord (April 17, 1890 – January 4, 1931) was an American silent film actor and rodeo champion. After his film career ended in 1929, Acord worked in rodeo road shows and as a miner in Mexico. Early life and career Acord was born to parents who were Utah pioneers and members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Valentine Louis Acord and Mary Amelia Acord (née Pedersen), in the ranching area called Prattville, just west of the town of Glenwood, Utah. Art's father was of German and English descent. The Acord family descends from a Prussian mercenary soldier of the American Revolutionary War whose name was Eckert. Art's paternal grandmother was a descendant of Frances Latham, an early settler of New England. Art's mother, who was of Danish descent, died when Art was just 19 months old while the family was living in the Stillwater, Oklahoma area. The National Film Preservation Foundation (NFPF) is an independent, nonprofit organization created by the U.S. Congress to help save America's film heritage.
