''The Scent of Joseph's Shirt'' ( fa, بوی پیراهن یوسف, Buy Pirâhan Yusof) is a 1995 war and drama film written and directed by Ebrahim Hatamikia, Iranian director, who is described as "of the most outstanding directors of war genre." The film is on the Iran–Iraq War prisoners of war. In an interview, Hatamikia said that the film portrays his perception of the concept of the reappearance of Muhammad al-Mahdi. Plot Daei Ghafoor is a taxi driver whose son is said to have been killed during the Iran–Iraq War, but he does not believe it. Despite all the evidence pointing to the death of his son, Yousef, he still is waiting for his return. One day, Daei Ghafoor meets a woman, Shirin, in the airport. Shirin has returned to Iran from Europe to find her brother, Khosrow, a missing soldier in the war. Both begin looking for their loved ones. Mohammad Ghouchani ( fa, محمد قوچانی, born 22 September 1976 in Rasht) is an Iranian journalist. He has served as editor-in-chief of various reformist print media, many of which have been banned by the authorities. Early life and education Ghouchani was born in 1976 in the city of Rasht. He graduated from the University of Tehran with a degree in Political Science. Career He started his career in '' Jame'eh'', the most famous among the newspapers that started after the reformer Mohammad Khatami became the president in 1997. Ghouchani also wrote for ''Asr-e Azadegan'' and became the "star" of that publication. In 2000, he won political columnist of the year prize at the Iranian Press Festival, but was jailed shortly after for his writings. The Mahdi ( ar, ٱلْمَهْدِيّ, al-Mahdī, lit=the Guided) is a messianic figure in Islamic eschatology who is believed to appear at the end of times to rid the world of evil and injustice. He is said to be a descendant of Muhammad who will appear shortly before the prophet ʿĪsā (Jesus) and lead Muslims to rule the world. Ali Nassirian ( fa, علی نصیریان; born 4 February 1935) is an Iranian actor and director. He has received various accolades, including a Crystal Simorgh and a Hafez Awards, Hafez Award.
