Tom Terriss
Thomas Herbert F. Lewin (28 September 1872 – 8 February 1964), known professionally as Tom Terriss, was a British actor, screenwriter, and film director. After trying various occupations, he became an actor playing a variety of roles, beginning in 1890, in plays, pantomime and Edwardian musical comedy. After the First World War, he left the stage and pursued a decade-long film career. He was the brother of the musical comedy star Ellaline Terriss and son of leading man actor William Terriss. Life and career Terriss was born in Barnes, London, son of the actor William Terriss (né Lewin) and his wife Isabel (née Lewis). He was educated at Christ's Hospital, and being, in his own words, "like his father before him … of roving disposition", he tried several occupations before becoming an actor. Bobby Watson ( born Robert Watson Knucher; November 28, 1888 – May 22, 1965) was an American theater and film actor, playing a variety of character roles, including, after 1942, Adolf Hitler. Life and career Born in Springfield, Illinois, Watson, who was of German descent, began his career at age 15 performing a vaudeville act at the Olympic Theatre in Springfield. As a teenager, he toured the U.S. midwest with the "Kickapoo Remedies Show", a traveling medicine show. He then appeared in Coney Island in a Gus Edwards show. In 1918, he first played on Broadway when he was a replacement in the role of Robert Street in '' Going Up'' and then created the role of the flamboyant dressmaker "Madame Lucy" in the hit musical ''Irene'' (1919), later repeating the role. He continued to play on Broadway through the 1920s. Watson began to appear in films in 1925, playing various character roles. Frances Elizabeth Janes Budgett (December 27, 1868 – February 6, 1928), writing under the pen name Elizabeth Dejeans, was an American novelist. Three silent films were based on works by Dejeans. Early life Frances Elizabeth Janes was born in New Philadelphia, Ohio, the daughter of Leroy Lansing Janes and Harriet Waterbury Scudder Janes. Her mother was born in India; her maternal grandfather was Presbyterian missionary Henry Martyn Scudder. She spent part of her childhood in Japan, when her father, an American Civil War veteran, was working as a missionary teacher in Kumamoto. She attended the University of Michigan, but left to marry. Career Dejeans wrote novels and short stories, mostly "popular female romances" focused on the New Woman and her modern problems. "Dejeans writes neither trash nor sensationalism," explained a 1912 reviewer, "but she does draw powerful pictures of the things that are not always pleasant to look upon."
