''The Return of Sarah's Daughters'' is a 1997 documentary film exploring the lives of three American Jewish women and their relationships with Judaism. The documentary was directed by filmmaker Marcia Jarmel and was aired on PBS. Marcia Jarmel
Marcia Jarmel is a director, producer, and long-standing member of the Bay Area documentary community. She was born and raised in suburban New Jersey and attended high school and college in Boulder, Colorado, where she studied journalism. She learned filmmaking through hands-on experience working on others people's projects. She moved to the Bay Area in 1988 and six years later, co-founded the San Francisco-based production company, PatchWorks Films, with husband-collaborator Ken Schneider. She has directed, produced, and managed impact for their films ever since. Chabad, also known as Lubavitch, Habad and Chabad-Lubavitch (), is an Orthodox Jewish Hasidic dynasty. Chabad is one of the world's best-known Hasidic movements, particularly for its outreach activities. It is one of the largest Hasidic groups and Jewish religious organizations in the world. Hasidism, sometimes spelled Chassidism, and also known as Hasidic Judaism (Ashkenazi Hebrew: חסידות ''Ḥăsīdus'', ; originally, "piety"), is a Jewish religious group that arose as a spiritual revival movement in the territory of contemporary Western Ukraine during the 18th century, and spread rapidly throughout Eastern Europe. The documentary was directed by filmmaker Evan Beloff and aired on the CBC-TV television channel. The film was also entered into Jewish Film Festivals in Canada, the United States, and in Poland. Background ''Kosher Love'' was commissioned by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and notedly focuses on the advice and guidance offered by Rabbi Yisroel Bernath of the Chabad Hasidic community. ''Shekinah Rising'', the sequel to ''Shekinah: The Intimate Life of Hasidic Women'', is a Canadian documentary produced in 2013, which explores the lives and attitudes of young Hasidic women at a Chabad-run seminary in Ste Agathe, Quebec. The documentary covers the perspectives of the female students, as well as religious views of former students in Hasidic communities in London, Belgium and France . The film' was directed by Abbey Neidik and produced by Abbey Neidik and Irene Angelico of DLI Productions, and Ina Fichman of Intuitive Pictures. The filming of the documentary took four years to complete.
